Recently I went to a steam punk convention in Seattle. I think I was the only fursuiter there. I cannot believe how well I was received by a lot of non-fursiters and con goers. I was well spoken of by the con committee and a lot of the people present. It was wonderful. Here is a picture of myself there taken by someone who sent the picture to me.

Hey all!
Im wanting to apply a gradient of a red fading to a yellow orange. Im not wanting to do this with fur but with some other fabric such as fleece. The gradient is going to be on the inside of the ears. My biggest concern is that I dont have an airbrush. Will I need to get one to accomplish this gradient? Or is there another method such as dry brushing?
Also I can draw up a picture real quick if anyone has confusion.

So I have been working on this resin sculpt for a while now and I think its basically done except for a little more smoothing. I am aiming for a toony mix between wolf and a fox, I was hoping that I could get some redlines or critique on it; as I have lots of time until I can get resin supplies anyways. (sorry for crappy pictures)





I added the one with horns in case that would affect anything

so, I want to make a blue wolf fursuit- but just starting with the head (first).

what is resin? how do you use it, is it expensive, where to get it.... and just basicly what is it? and is this the best thing to make a fursuit from, because when ever I try and use foam, it fails. and then- what foam would I use?

Hello guys! Making a lot of progress on my first head, with your guy's help. :) Could not have gotten this far without you.

I am doing flat toony eyes, and have cut out an eyewhite with plastic from the dollar store that have a tiny bit of curve. However, when I started this project I also bought curved, clear plastic from an ornament. It is perfect for the size and shape of my eyes. I've seen some fursuits, mostly japanese styled suits, that have this clear plastic over the eyes that give it a wetter, rounder look.



Problem is...how do you even attach that? If you just simply glued it on, the glue would be more than visible on the head and would get onto the white plastic of the flat eyes. How do I put it over the flat eyes without having an ugly edge?

I can post pictures of my head and the plastic if that gives anyone a better idea.

Are paint pens my only option?

So I went to Joanns today and I searched everywhere for buckram. The only stuff I could find that was close and seemed to work just fine was this white plastic canvas. Its made by Darice and its 14 mesh. heres a pic of the stuffIve tried spraypainting it(with and without sanding), painting it with acrylic paint(also with and without sanding) this stuff doesnt hold anything cuz its super smooth, everything just rubs off. Will this stuff hold paint pens with some sanding and then a good gloss coating? I really would hate to just trash this stuff. You guys have any experience with this type of mesh? Thanks for any help

I need about 5 yards of beige for my bear fullsuit, but I can't find it anywhere! Does anyone know where it is in stock, or if anyone has 5 yards they could sell me?

Also- random question: I'm gonna be casting a resin head in the garage and it's really cold. Will that affect anything major?

First off, hello you guys! It's time I stop snooping around and do something productive...well actually..

I have been productive, but it's not going as well as I planned...I have recently taken up trying to start a canine-ish (the animal is actually a dragon-hedgehog hybrid, but I'll just call it canine because I can) fursuit head with a little help from a few of bongoqueen's tutorials.


I need help with shape if you guys would be so kind as to help...
The initial shape is a husky with a longer snout than normal, and the style I'm going for is semi-realism. Yes I know I'll have to fix the eye sockets later.





I'm a person that likes to work in flat pieces and building up on that instead of blocks.
Anywho, the thing that is seriously bothering me is the fact that the muzzle doesn't have the appearance of being closed. Like it just hangs open, even when I wear it. I triple checked the elastic (thus the hot glue over the stitches), so I know it can't be that...

I don't have any frontal pictures at the moment because I lost my camera, so I hope you guys can get the general idea of what's going on.

Hey guys! I'm looking for some WIP pictures of foam bases with tearduct vision!

I'm wanting to install large sealed off dome eyes on a toony monster suit.
Would epoxie be best for eyelids or fleece to keep up with the toony look?

Yeah... so does anyone happen to know where i can find some decent quality short grey fur?
I don't want the frosted that teddy from crcrafts comes in.

In other words i'm looking for a deeper/blue/steal type grey... but i'm not sure where to go?
I've seen seal fur being sold on certian sites... but i'm not sure what kind of quality it is? (also i like the length/quality of cubby? i've seen/felt it used on a suit before)

anyways, sorry if this is a silly post or something... i've just not had much experience with short furs :o

I'm concerned about what kind of lip to use for my fursuit. He's a realistic husky/dragon.

Also, does anyone have an example of the silicone lip sold by DVC? I have already ordered from them many times before so I would like to mostly stick to their supplies, since I know it's wonderfully made and ships when it says, etc.

I'm open for commissions again, but not really getting any interest. I'm not sure if it is just the time of year, if I need to improve how I am promoting things. I guess I just really need help. I offered sales over black Friday where I offered up to 25% off and got no interest. Of course I know I had competition, so I guess that wasn't a complete surprise as I'm not the only builder out there and certainly not the most experienced.

I don't have a big name and I'm not a fast builder. I do have pretty low prices, I only advertise on FA and occasionally here on LJ. Do I need to try doing like pre-made suits? Should I offer like a free raffle suit? Pay for advertising somewhere else? What are the best ways to promote my fursuits?

How much fur should I order to be able to make a fullsuit, including furring the head, paws, and tail?
I'm 5'7 and weigh roughly 150 pounds.

My fursuit is coming along, however, I'm faced with a dilemma:

I can't find any light grey 2 inch fur. The one thing that seems to be nonexistent in the fabric world, and my fursona has to have it.
Do you more experienced builders know of any furs that are lighter than the DF Grey Luxury Shag, but will match it in quality and length? I've thought about dying my own, but that may only work with colors.. Besides, the light grey parts on my suit need to be soft and fluffy.
I discovered that at one point, there was a DF Silver Luxury Shag. Does anybody have any, or know anywhere I could buy it from?
Any pointers would be wonderful. Thanks in advance!

Hello!

Have a little bit of a fur problem and I'm wondering if anyone here could maybe offer their advice!

I have a customer who is getting a fursuit head from a fursuit maker in Japan and they were interested in having me build the rest of the fursuit, the only problem is that this is the fur I was linked to:

I'm having trouble navigating the site so I don't know if ordering from them is even an option for me as I live in the United States.

In this tutorial it guides you through how to make a balaclava cap and attach it to your resin base, allowing more surface area to work with when trying to place the characters ears.

Trying to set up  a fursuit photo booth for finished products, Eyeing soft boxes, but I am unsure the effect they would have on the fursuited figure, in the photos.  Also, continuous lighting? Yay or nay? I'm picking though information about setting up a mild, not quite intense photo booth, but it's really hard to judge when your figure is not a smooth skinned person, but a shag carpet critter.

I have a marketing survey I need to put out to get more info before trying to start a business on making fake fur and other suit making stuff. I was planning on putting it on my wordpress blog and linking that. You can use just about anything to comment on anything these days, so that I think would make more sense than here.

Any good advice on getting a good number of the pro makers to fill it out? I don't really like the idea of spamming out an e-mail.

-faint- I finally finished her...I was going to post her with the feet, hands and tail I'm making but at the rate I'm going that could take months. So I'd love just to get some critiques on her head now and maybe the others later. :3



I named her Snicker Doodle because I love those cookies. She is a balaclava and foam base with DF furs. I'm happy with the general appearance but she is far from perfect.

Things I am happy with
-General proportions/overall expression
-the left side of the face xD
-eyes paint and shading
-her teeth and tongue

Things I will attempt to improve upon
-Asymmetry- white cheek sections do not match, and eyebrow too
-Visible seams and weak seams: it was my first time sewing. It painfully shows.
-The right eye does not exactly fit the hole and there is a gap near the eyelid.
-Better duct tape pattern, mine was terrible!!

So those are the things I'm aware of but I really want you guys to check it out, tell me what you think. Anything I missed? ;u;

I plan on making my lemur fursona, and she has three tails. Three long lemur tails. I have made tails in the past, but I have no idea how to go about attaching them to a belt loop/belt. Should I make them all their separate elastic bands to attach, or should I make them all attach from the same bands? I want them to look like they're sprouting from the same source, but not at the expense of them splaying out in crazy directions.
