I Need A Bit Of Advise, Please

I'm looking to make a realistic furry dragon head and have already ordered the point nosed dragon resin mask, resin dragon jawset, and thin point silicone tongue from Dream Vision Creations, and custom made 3D follow me eyes from Epic Studios.

This is going to be my first fursuit head, though I am going to have my Grandmother's help, and she's a master of sewing with practically any material, and she has very good experience with dog shears. Well, she does have a little poodle that constantly needs styling and trimming. :)

I'm sorry that I do not have a picture of my Fursona, Fibro, considering I'm not very confident in my anthropomorphic artwork, but I will do my best to describe him.

He has light gray fur that is very short in the face, and then gets longer much like a husky. He has medium sized, pushed back ears that have long yellow fur on the inside. He is all the same colour of gray and has no markings, except for a large yellow scar over his left eye. I was thinking for that part I could just not have any fur, considering the resin mask is already yellow, and it will make it look a lot more realistic.

Is there any tips for furring the head realistically, shaving it back like a husky, making the scar, or any furs that you think would fit him?

Thank you in advance. :)

First completed fursuit head! Critiques?

Hi everyone, just recently finished one of my first fursuit heads!
over all i'm pretty proud of my workmanship and styling, but I know I can always improve! Head has static jaw and eyes, and has all-foam construction.
Dish out as much critique as you guys can, as the creator of this it makes it kinda hard to see small flaws or imperfections.
Anyways, pics are below the cut :)

Afraid to move onto furring.

I've been working on a new fursuit (this will be my 2nd finished head), starting with the head of course. And I've been going all out on it and trying to make sure it's something I'm really happy with, so of course I'm nervous about moving onto the furring stage?

So this is what I have right now. Overall, I'm fairly happy with how the foam looks. But I've also been staring at it for the past few days so I may be missing things that'll become obvious after furring. I'd love another opinion, does this look okay enough to move onto furring? If not, what needs work still?

I should probably mention that the nose isn't permanent, the eyes aren't finished and glued down, the tongue isn't attached, and that pill bottle in his ear is so I know how big to make the plugs haha.

Picture is under the cut:

He's supposed to be a sort of mutt, but mostly corgi.

Anyway, thanks! c:

A little resin mask help please.

I'm wanting to make a partial of my little fluff ball Jaaku http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11952898/

But I do not know if anyone sells just the top part of skulls. I know Dream Vision Creations sold some resin skulls, but they are not selling them now past October.

Dose anyone know if someone is selling skull mask or is willing to sell one to me? Or if there is some way to buy a resin cast mask, and adapt it into looking like a skull. ;w; Anything will help I'm kind of new at all of this, but I really want to give it a try.

Also if there is not can any one point me in the right direction on all the products I will need to make one myself.

I've looked in the memories but I'm not sure which product is best to use.

advice/help on planning a suit out?

So this might be kinda long.. I know I've been posting a lot lately, I plan on making a 3/4 suit. It will be my second suit and I want it to be something special, since I will be going all out, and buying real quality supplies. (Until my last suit, which everything, fur and all came from joann' s).

1. Where is a good place to get foam for heads/feet? Online or store? The stuff I get from joanns is ok, but it doesn't seem like that's what professional makers use.
I heard you can go to upholstery stores and ask if they have foam scraps they want to throw out, getting free foam. Can you?

2. So I plan on making digigrade pants on a dtd this time. I'm thinking about getting a disposal painters suit, making straight pants, and carving up foam to attach to the dtd.
But for the actual suit, I was going to pattern one piece of fabric off the padding, attaching it to the fur, and either filling it with stuffing, or stuffed pillows. Then closing it up with Velcro or a zipper. Is there another way to keep it closed?

Also, is there mabye a cheaper why to do the padding on the dtd? It just seems like a waste to carve up foam if that's all I'll use it for. I thought about using the pillows, but I thought they would flatten down after the taping, and not make the pattern work right.

3. For the furring, I was thinking of making the fur come up more, so that it's higher then my belt line, since I was thinking about making a hole, the same way you do on fullsuits so the belt doesn't show. I don't want my clothing pulling up where you can see the belt. (This happens every time I wear my half suit). Would this be a good idea? Or maybe I could have belt loops that hide the belt? Because how could I keep the pants up without them?

4. For my tail, it's going to be over 4ft long. I'll be carrying it most of the time, but I would like to be able to clean it if needed, since it has alot of white. I was thinking of putting a zipper on the top back so it could be washed in the washer (I've done this with a bodysuit). Or I've heard about a sleeve. Anyone know anything about this?

5. I've heard shaving a bodysuit down is both bad and ok. I want my fur short everywhere but my cheeks, neck, and tail. I want short, but not seal fur short. I've seen cr crafts short fur, anyone gotten it before? Or know a good place to get medium/short length fur? I might get mm fox for the tail and head, I just hope the tail won't get knotted fur for being so long.

6. I've made a few pairs of paws, but mess up every time. It's always that I mess up between the fingers, and the shape is never right. I'm going to be making stuffed four fingered paws. I need help on knowing how to get the round shape just right, the seem allowance between the fingers, and making sure the two-fingerd finger blends in well.

Plantigrade Legs?

Pardon the really dumb question but... I've only been suiting for for about a few months and I've decided to tackle making a full-suit. I've only made partials in the past, but I feel comfortable enough to now challenge myself in trying to make a full-body fursuit.
However, I hit a bump in the road.
I've seen tutorials for digitigrade fursuits everywhere. But, not for plantigrade? Do you just sort of make a sleeve for your legs along with the bodysuit? Or do you make them seperate? I'm so confused!
I'd like something like this, but I have no idea how to tackle it. I'm a pretty small person and those legs look so full, not wrinkled or oversized or anything. Thoughts?

Resin Feline Bases?

Hello again guys, so basically a friend and I have mutually agreed to do a Pet Semetary cosplay together, and GUESS WHAT, I was the person in the group that volunteered to be Church the cat. =D!!!

So now, I'm looking for a resin feline base.  I know DVC has them, but, since I've never used a resin base before, is there anyone else other than DVC that you guys would recommend that has nice small cat/house cat feline resin bases? :3! Any recommendations as well as first time using resin bases tips and things like that would be awesome sauce.  I am going to be foaming it to get the chunky russian blue look.

also, since Church is a russian blue, does anyone have any leads for a nice russian blue looking fur color?

Hey there everyone! I've been looking for fur up and down and not having any luck. Looking for a more muted shade of yellow then Distinctive Fabric yellow shag.

Any help would be appreciated. We have checked the LA fashion district too without success.

A nice seal would be wonderful, but without the stripes of course. It is for a cheetah fursuit.

Using E6000 when it's cold

Hey all! I need to use some E6000 to glue together feet. I normally do it outside due to the fumes, but it's super cold out (in the 20's!). Will it work if I use it outside in this cold? Should I just use it inside with the window cracked for ventilation? I'd prefer not to use it inside as my workshop is quite cold and if I'm working I need to use a space heater--but the fumes are flammable and I don't want a fire risk.

Help! I think I made DTD too tight!

This was my first time making a DTD. I had thought that you make it so it's very tight around your body. My boyfriend wrapped it around and now I'm afraid it's messed up and the body suit will come out very tight like the DTD.

Is there any way to fix this, or when the body suit is made, do makers generally make it bit bigger than the DTD itself??

Thanks!

Cheap Mannequin head?

I'm in the process of buying the materials to make my second fursuit head (super excited!), and I decided that this time I want to base the head off of a balaclava. Does anyone know if I could get a cheap mannequin head under $20 that is pretty much true to size? I've learned from others mistakes of going cheap and having a super small head that doesn't fit them, and I'd rather not have that happen ^^;

How much fur?

Hello! I'm a total newbie to making fursuits, but I've been doing research on how to make them for months...

Here is a ref of my fursona:

Kangaroo

Some of the markings are different from what I have in mind, but you get the general picture. It's the only full-body reference I have at the moment, sadly. I'll definitely need a ref sheet done soon.

I'm going to need 5 different colors of fur (light green, lime green, emerald green, purple, and light blue), but I need to know how much I'm gonna need...

I'm 5'4" and 105 lbs, if that helps.

Help! Refurb work.

$

I have had my C.M.Y.K. head since 2009 and it's time for some refurbishing. I would like some feedback from some seasoned fursuit builders on how to fix these two issues:

1. C.M.Y.K. is supposed to have a moving jaw but it has never quite worked well. It was attached by springs and elastic but since then the springs have popped and the elastic hasn't quite held its elasticity. My question is, what do you think the best solution would be in fixing this? I was thinking about adding hinges and new springs. I haven't really torn apart the head yet to see what can be done. It would be nice to try to get more movement out of the mouth on my suit.

2. It's really hard to see out of my eyes and I am thinking about replacing them but I am not sure what materials I should be looking for. I like what is there but the material that was used previously makes it really had to see. Also what paints, ect... For the eyes?

Note: This is the fursuit in question - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4835809/

Thanks!

Black Fur

Hello!

I recently decided I want to rework an old fursuit head I made about 2.5 years ago. It was a foam base but the moving jaw mechanism used completely failed and is now broken and crooked. So, instead of just trying to fix the jaw, i'm going to tear apart the entire head and de-fur it, reshape it and fix the jaw.

Now, since I am going to be refurring it, I was wondering if anyone could recommend a type of black fur that doesn't have the white backing. I'm not sure exactly what this is called, but the few furs I've been able to find in store that are nice all have white threads woven in.

If this is common in most furs, is there any way to colour that so the white doesn't show through? Last time I used it, the seams all showed white (mind you, I glued them then and learned my lesson..this time around im sewing the seams) and I'm concerned that when I take the clippers to shave it down, white will also show through.

So, in short...any good quality furs that dont have white woven backings and/or is there any way to colour or avoid it showing.
Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

(Not sure if this is on topic or not...I apologize if it doesn't belong here.)

Pattern problem - again

I try to sew the tiger figur.
I drew the face on a paper and one of the problems I have is to sew the face I drew.

TigerFace_RR

TigerPl_RR5

(I trimed the mutton chops, because the longer part will be longer fur)

The other problem is the pattern itself. And to sew it. The parts look very flat. For example the muzzle. The nose, the left/right muzzle and the jaw look like one ball.

The face isn't symmetric, but this is because the figur isn't symmetric as well.
For the next tiger maybe I need to use the right side also for the left.

The next problem is - making paws. I want to seperate the toes and the two toes (middle) are different parts. But they are still really flat.

(I used the tiger figur to make the pattern)

TS_wmt_rawroarTS2_wmt_rawroar

Another one is the white fur around the eyes. It's also really flat.
The whole face looks like two balls. One big and one smaller.

Can someone help me? XD

(The black parts are made with a pen - just so to see a bit more tiger in this thing)

I Hope This Applies To This Community

I don't know if this is a big problem for people, but my dad is very against furries.
I told him that I wanted to plan to go to a convention in our area in a few months, and he was fine with it until I told him it was Furry Fiesta. As soon as I said that he said I couldn't go because the furry fandom doesn't have any art or anything like a Comic Book Convention and that it's just filled with creepy people who like wearing costumes.
I told him it was the exact opposite, and even referred him to some of Uncle Kage's videos, but he's still very against it.
Is there anything I could say to him to make him understand?
Thanks in advance.
And I'm really sorry if this doesn't apply to this community, I just really need some help. :(

First fullsuit completed! A tiger! :D

So I finally completed my first fullsuit and as much as a challenge as it was I really must say it was a pleasure to work on and I'm pretty happy with the overall result. I see things that I definitely would like to improve on with my next one and as always would like any input I can get.

I have pictures that I took of him as well as some pictures he got taken when he debuted it at MFF. The back shot from the convention one shows the back markings better as the fur is pulled tight whereas the ones I took of his back don't look correct because the fur was loose in the pictures.

Anyway, here he is! My first fullsuit! YAY!
