Bolt (the dog) foam base head --Wanted critique/more redlines/jaw looks flat/odd?

$

Hi! ^^ Just posting my Bolt the wonderdog fursuit head base, I want more redlines/critique and hopefully fix these jaws...

I'm wanting to make my jaws similar to DHC/MC heads, where the mouth goes into the cheek. This head already has a 1" piece of foam to make my head lower to see out of the eyes, and I feel I need another piece to get the jaw to be a working moving jaw. Does this mean I am making my heads too large? If I extend the cheeks down some more to make the mouth go into the cheeks (mid section or close), I feel the head will rest too much on my shoulders possibly.

Expression: I'm going for the happy expression (tongue out picture)
Eyes: I'm guessing I should probably add more foam from the side of the head to cover the eye, sadly it'd take away from some vision.
Cheek: I'm adding foam to the left side! But please do tell me what I can improve about them, they're somewhat fox-like.
Jaw: I feel this jaw will be way too wide if I go along the upper snout/mouth the same shape to match it, but i'm not sure! It looks flat/plain to me.
General: I feel like this dog has got some big intrusion going on since I added the cheeks and the large snout, the rest of the head looks small/plain and flat.... I love the size of the nose and upper jaw, but I wonder if this will look bad after it is furred :/

Note: I always make the area where the ears attach to the head more rounded, i'll take care of that! I also work differently than normal, I add the balaclava after the foam work is finished and have successfully made moving jaws doing so.
I love critique on anything you can find! It will improve how this will look <3

Edit: Made eye smaller slightly, raised eyebrow position and added some foam under them to make them pop out more.

How many pattern are okay? - How visible is the seam? - And does it make sense to sew tiger stripes?

After I used clay to make a big cat figurine the figurine was pasted over with tape.
And now I don't know how many pattern make sense. The figurine got some muscle therefore I'm not sure how many muscle parts I can put together to avoid some seams.

But is a large amout of pattern good for a half-realistic stuffed animal?

I will use fake fur and found a tutorial where the person told by using this methode you won't be able to see the seam. But how high-piled should be the fur to avoid the visible seam?

And the last bis question is - does it make sense to sew the stripes of a tiger, because I cannot find a matching fur?

Uoh it seems my pattern aren't very symetrical.
The neck and head tends to the right side. Therefore I decided to make pattern for the whole body.
Normaly I could make pattern for half of the animal and dublicate it... I'm not sure...
I fear you will see that :(

I know it has a ton of flaws, but I'm overall very proud of it. I can't wait to make my next one, this hobby is very rewarding, I loved wearing it for halloween! So yes, I give anyone permission to tear down my precious artwork that I spent about a month straight on and pulled all nighters for. I want to improve and hope to one day take commissions as I really really enjoyed it :) I couldn't have done it without this community (Thank you all who replied to my questions!!!) and especially matrices tutorials ^-^ You're all awesome~ Please tell me how to improve!

changing a bodysuit padding help?

So I'm updating my snow leopard' s bodysuit.
She has digigrade legs. It's stuffed pillows sown to the suit.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10261798/

As you can kind see, the thigh padding is huge, and the calf padding sticks out to much, and there is no follow between the knee to calf.
I would like to change it by making the knee padding smaller, and fixing the calf' s.
Do I need to just cut the calf' s off,  And sow new materiel with the padding back on?

Or.

I wouldn't mind changing the bodysuit just back to a plantigrade one. I saw a post about this along while back but wouldn't know where to look.
Anyone know how I could change the seems?

is this a good sewing machine

industrial 3800 series Union Special industrial interlock sewing machine with a industrial 110 motor. i went and looked at it today it was posted on Craigslist and it works and looks ok but i know next to nothing about sewing machines. i want to start making fursuits but the sewing machine i have right now is cheap and i cant use it for that. the lady says that the lowest she'll take for it is 100 bucks and that she has more than that in just the motor but she doesn't use it any more and needs the space. she says its like a serger but you can remove the blade so it does an interlock seam as well(i might have that backwards) it is mounted into a table that has a big lamp on it and a huge spool holder that holds three spools. she says she used it for upholstery for both leather and vinyl and also to make socks and that the only way she could every see anyone breaking it is if they didn't oil it. so what do you guys think as i said i really dont know much about sewing machines other than how to use one. also she didn't know the exact year it was she said it was like mid 90's and she bought it from a sewing machine store around here and that if i ever had any troubles with it that the guy she bought it from still owns the store and he would be able to fix it.

Delux Beige from China sent to Fabric Empire oil-damaged.

EDIT: I think my link has been taken down. I no longer see it on their website and Amazon.

I received a phone call today about my fabric. The fabric sent from China to California soaked in a black oil. The fabric I was told was beyond salvation, and was a huge loss from the company.

My purchase was refunded, and I was told as part of the apology to keep the 6 yards of Delux Camel I was sent by accident.

I was hoping to do a fitting this coming weekend, and I am not sure when I will get a chance again. It's not FE's fault, but I am at a loss of what to do right now. They may potentially get it in again in 2 months, longer, sooner...who knows?

If anyone happens to have any scraps, I basically just need 2 large hand size pieces just to do top of the paws (sans fingers) at the moment.

Hi, I was hoping someone might have the answer to this. I need to glue two layers of minky together and wondering what kind of glue to use? It needs to be permanent and secure, particularly on the edges. Also I'm in the UK so needs to be a product available here too.
Thanks in advance for any help :)

tail question

so i'm wondering that would a tail like this be possible to make?

tail
like it's basically made of 5 balls of fur and a tuft in the end. i know that getting those fur colors would mean dyeing some furs which is gonna be very difficult and even then it's not gonna be 100% same. but i'm interested in making one, as one of my newest characters has a tail like this (this is actually his tail). but i'm just asking that would anyone know a technique how to create balls out of fur? foam as a base or something? i don't want it to be really heavy tho as it's going to be down to ground and i'd hate to get it dirty right away.

Adding fans, lights, and other gadgets to a suit.

Hi, I haven't posted in a while, but wanted to get some feedback on my recent side project.

Last year I finished my suit head/partial project. Since then, I've gotten a bunch of really positive feedback from people when they see the LED lights and fans that I installed in my suit head. I got the chance to suit at a couple dance events, and people really loved the strobing effect I did with the eye LEDs.

This got me thinking that other people might like to have something like this, in kit form, that they can easily install in their own costume projects. I've started building a building an insanely improved version of my first fan/LED control board, and wanted to get some feedback from people to see if I should consider releasing a kit that people can buy. I'm mainly asking, because it seems like a shame to spend time working on only ONE of these things. :D

Anyway, I made up a diagram and a draft Indiegogo campaign describing what I'm working on. I wanted to share the idea here before I put too much time in to this. My hope is that some costume builders here can comment with their feedback, questions, ideas, concerns, etc. I'm still working on some important features that aren't mentioned here, like the battery pack and a robust cabling system. I'll be updating that page as I get ready to launch my campaign. Cheers!

OK so I've looked around a bit and in the memories and i could not find any tutorials on how to make tear duct vision with realistic follow me eyes. eyes 2
eyes i like the look of the ones in the mask but i want to know how to make them in a fashion similar to the ones that are not in the mask. basically i want to know how to make the tear duct and eyelid frame. i have resin cast eyes and no clue how to install them into my masks. also any ideas on led eyes would be great too, maybe there's already a tutorial out there for those but i haven't found any so i thought i would ask.

making spikes pointy?

I know this should be a simple fix, and maybe it's already been posted, but I wouldn't know where to look.

How do you get spikes, horns and things, to have pointy tips? I've been using just a basic triangle shape, and every time the tips end up being round nubs. I try pulling the fabric with needles and other things, but it doesn't help much, especially on the type of vinyl I have.

I tried different stitches, such as a blanket stitch, but it still does the same thing, only making the seems be shown on my vinyl.

Is the shape of the spikes? Or am I doing something wrong?

I need a new scale!

I need a new digital scale, does anyone know any that are ideal for measuring liquids from at least 500g to 0.01g 550k5?
I used to have a kitchen scale (used only for casting) that would measure to 0.1g (it's broken now).
But it was very unreliable when I wanted to cast small quantities of silicone, since the ratio would be 100:1 for the hardener.

Preferred stich for sewing vinyl?

I just finished some large foam claws for my suit and im wondering what stich you guys would recommend for sewing the vinyl? Also how would I go about fitting the vinyl to the claws? Should I make a tape pattern and then lay it out on the vinyl? Also trying to limit the seam as much as possible. I do know that a seam will be visible. Thanks for any input :)

Where do you buy fur in Canada?

I'm working on my first furhead, and it's almost ready for taping (will probably post it for critique soon). I tried to order just a yard of DF caramel from fabric.com, and the shipping was almost $20! I already knew shipping from Mendel's is almost $40, distinctivefabrics doesn't ship to canada, and joann's ships to canada now but has no fur.

This leaves me at a bit of a loss. How does anyone in canada get fur? Am I missing something?

Anyone know where I can find a nice turquoise seal?

I'd rather not have to shave down a longer fur if I don't have to.
