Edit: oh geez, how could I be so stupid to not add seam allowance :<
thank you all for the help, I think I will try to add some more fur in the back.....

HEy all, I am almost done with a head of mine, but I think that the fur and balaclava is too small for people, it's too tight!
I padded my headform to be a normal head, and had my dad try on the head, the foam base was fine! But when I made the DTD fo the head and got everything stitched,
I am just NOW finding out that it's too tight and I don't know what happened! I have absolutely NO time to start over and I really need it to work somehow!!

PLEASE HELP QAQ

Taping a balaclava head

Alright...so my main issue with fursuit heads is the furring, stemming from the tape patterns. How do I do an effective tape pattern on a balaclava hood? Should I have the hood on while I have someone else put the tape down?

hand paws to line or not to line?

I've made several pairs of hand paws (though it -has- been a while) and I was just wondering is it much better to line them? If so what material do you use? Is it much harder to do so? How would one go about it? I remember one time many years ago, my friend and I made these -huge- paws and I think we lined them with gloves (the long kind that go up to your elbow) but I can't remember for the life of me how we managed that. However, the paws I'm making right now are just short average hand paws.

the search for camel fur!

Sorry for posting again so soon, but now that resin and silicone has been sorted i cannot find a single place that stocks camel fur and ships to the UK!!!

I'm planning to make this suit for my boyfriend. I have found a fur that will do if i cant find anything better for the lighter brown from swincraft on ebay (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Luxury-Faux-Fur-Fabric-CHAMPAGNE-CREAM-All-Sizes-Bulk-Discounts-FREE-POST-/110878235168?pt=UK_Crafts_Fabric&var=&hash=item19d0db9a20) but i am stuck for the darker brown. I've checked every website linked on the user page, as well as most of the us based ones and fursuitsupplies, but it seems that everyone has either sold out or cannot ship to the UK. Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!!
(I'm estimating that I'll need around 2 yards of the darker and 1 yard of the lighter as it'll be a partial suit!  but please correct me if you think this is off, i overordered massively the last time i made a suit)

Reforming kinked synthetic yaki

I just want to double check this method before I go and try it.

I have an older commercial grade Rowenta steamer and a very large mane of slightly bent synthetic yaki that I know needs heat to straighten it. Problem is, I cannot hold a giant mask over a pot of warm water and dip and fix everything like that.

So the question is, could I possibly use the steamer to straighten everything back out again with a little help from a brush? I would assume it would work, but I want to make sure I won't melt it inadvertently or do some other nonsense.

Snow leopard advice/redline

So I've started work on my much overdue remake of my snow leopard fursuit.  I'm close to finishing with the foamwork, but I figured I'd post it up for a second opinion before I move on to refining the form, adding ears, and furring it.  Ultimately I'm going for a very toony, cheerful look.
Here's an Imgur album of the front, side and top views.
http://imgur.com/a/9Ovsw
Specifically I'm having trouble with the corners of the mouth.  I need to carve them in so they show through the foam, but I'm not sure how to do it without compromising the jaw movement.  Any help would be much appreciated!

"Oily" fur? What when and why?

I'm soon making this suit, using one of Head-Spyn's amazing eagle blanks (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRQ5r5xWU2I&feature=youtu.be )

I ordered some fabric.com fabric, 1 Yard of cream luxury shag, and one of their mongolian black.

The cream (http://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=d97e99fd-cf70-45a3-a7cb-f45c39787646 is lovely, really, really lovely. But the black https://www.fabric.com/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=ca127606-4cc6-30e6-e043-2a59000a2831 - gosh it just feels horrible. Oily and so easy to mess up. Even combed it looks well... Like it should be on Washyourfuckingfursuit.tumblr.com

Anyone got any ideas of how I can make it less... Gross?

Thanks

Foam Strips Haven't Worked (Head Resizing)

Hey everyone... I'm pretty mad and need some help fighting this goddamn lioness mask. :(
I got some foam and fleece, and have put a strip in the forehead and cheeks. It's helped minimally -- attempting to open the jaw still causes the mask to just slide down, enough to obscure my vision.

I really wanted to take this out to the meet tomorrow and I'm trying really hard to make some last minute fixes but I need some suggestions. The suit maker has not responded to my enquiries whatsoever.

I've tried loosening the elastic so that it fits more around the base of my skull, that's just made it too loose and hasn't fixed the issue. The elastic as it is, when I put the mask on, rests near the top of my head. It doesn't do jack. I thought it was too short, I don't know.

It seems like what it needs is something protruding from the resin base to sort of hook round the back of my head to support the weight.

What can I do to make this thing stop sliding forward? D: Thanks everyone, I appreciate I've been posting a lot.

Hand paw help :(

I believe I've finally settled on hand paws like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7193876/

However, I have several pleas for help questions as every attempt to make these has gone terribly awry :(

- how should I go about measuring to make sure these fit?
- do I need to space the fingers apart a certain way (for example, in her pattern it seems like the four fingers are slanted at an angle; more towards the left)
- I have black paws (http://www.dreamvisioncreations.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2067826); as the toes are not perfectly round as shown in the above pattern, is there a way I can go about 'lengthening' the fingers so they don't look strange?

I have tried using Matrice's pattern, but I prefer four-fingered hand paws (also since I bought enough claws for four-fingered hands/feet)

Three questions here!
1. The design i'm using for the suit i'm working on has only 3 very small patches of brown on it. I can't find scraps available right now, and i need way under half a yard. I only need 3 small pieces, each around maybe 5x5 inches. I don't really want to drybrush them on, either... What should I do? omo;;
2. Also, how much fur would i need for a head and tail? The suits a partial, and the character wears fingerless gloves, so the hands are just going to be fingers, so that can be made from scraps likely. The tail will be fairly small (around maybe 15 inches in length im thinking?) and feet paws aren't going to be made.
3. Finally, what should i do about shaving my fur? I don't plan on taking commissions or making very many suits anytime soon, so buying a nice pair of trimmers and whatnot would be pointless. I don't really want to use scissors in case i screw up or something. I want the fur to be fairly smooth, and i dont want to leave it un-shaved....

tl;dr i need scraps of brown df, i also need to know how much fur i need to make just a head and a 15 inch tail, and how can i shave fur without super fancy trimmers.

I was able to scrounge enough cash together for the fur for this thing. I'm so limited with so many things, it seems. A family member gifted me with some money to buy the fur and hands for the Ewok. I crave practice. I want to get better at this so badly.

I'm sure plenty of you recall Callix the Akita's head I tried to sell. Weeeelll, that failed. As much trouble as he gave me, I decided to re-use something I had made and since he sat on the shelf and was never used, I gave him a purpose.
He will be missed, yes and one day, recreated as a fullsuit.

This is YubNub the Ewok. I'm part of the starwars costuming association and this is my first costume to get into the association. I'm aiming to get it approved for an accurate membership. I get a badge and everything and its so fullfilling!

I wasn't really going to post here, but this is a fursuit, basically.

I'm working on ventilation to the MAX! Staying cool, getting water conveniently through the mouth, tinting the eyes to black pools, putting teeth in the mouth, and anything else I want to do right the first time. A lot of stuff hasn't been done right on this thing, but once the fur is on it, you'd never know how fugly the craftsmanship was underneath.

I striving to be neater on purpose, my craftsmanship has always been a cursed obstacle to get over in many mediums.

Oh, and the fun glasses orange thing on the chin is to shape the chin, but breathe with its vents. It will allow heat to get out, rather than having a foam jaw. The face is basically open, but I'm struggling with ventilation. I think I've solved the breathing issue with the funglasse vent.

Water is going to be achieved through wearing the camel pack under the suit, which adds to the padding that I'm trying to figure out. The head is so big I need the body to match. I'm skinny as a rail! Unfortunately, I built everything to fit the size and I can't cut it down, or it wouldn't look right, but I did freaking slice this thing open so I can BREATHE!

Sorry about the poor lighting, our house is so dark, EVERYWHERE, we can't get enough light to fill the room.
This is the latest update. I added nommers to her. Its a requirement, I found out to have teeth. Wish I would have paid attention to that before i mad the lips! The clean up is terrible!

All right, my motivation for this feat is to show the public their childhood or to be goofy because nobody will know who I am, while in suit, at Starwars Troops. Also, I want to become approved as an active member.

Troops are great and I love dressing up in the suits. I mean, more than four times a month you can appear at a charity event. SO MUCH DRESS UP! WHOOOHOOO! AND MY STUFF DOESN"T SIT ON THE SHELVES COLLECTING DUST! Ahem...

Excuse me. Anywho, let's see what i've done so far! This head has been converted from a former fursuit head that i tried to sell, but refrianed from because it wasn't quality-enough to be bought, let alone sold...

One thing i for sure...I'm going to be the biggest and tallest freaking Ewok there ever was! I'm 5'8 so, yeah, I'm pretty up there. However, I was informed the legion grades on costume accuracy, not size. :)

This is all from the night before last night!

I know it is a long shot, but might anyone have a yard of a dark. dark, charcoal grey or any methods to creating a dark charcoal grey besides the soaking in paint/airbrushing?

Needs to be very dark, preferably around a DF length and texture.

Thank you!

Anyone have any suit pics of them using small / large cloven hooves by Monoyasha? I need to see a comparison in size. Originally I was going to buy the large ones..but I also need a pair of eyes from her..and I'll be spending 200 dollars regardless. So does anyone have pics of suits with her cloven hooves?

I spotted this really awesome red fur trim in fabricland the other day and wondering if anyone has seen it's like in bigger sizes, this was just a trim. This exact stuff would be fantastic, but something close would be good too if anyone has a suggestion.

Silicone Help + A Question

$

Hey guys!
I recently attempted to cast a nose out of silicone and it didn't work at all! Silicone did not cure (it has been six days now), forcing me to throw out both the mold and the gooey silicone. Help? It might be because its a brush on silicone, but I truly do not know.
Secondly, I need some advice. (This may not belong in this group, but I know people here are active and ready to help) I commissioned a fursuit a while back from a studio that responded to my sales post. They are legit and all. Communication was great until suddenly, they seemed to fall off the edge of the Earth. I have not heard back in some time now and I am starting to think they duped me. I have put in a deposit of quite a steep number and made one installment with the payment plan we worked out. What should I do? Should I email them again? They have an FA, but I do not (They are VERY active on there.) When do you know it's time to file a PayPal dispute?
Thanks!
