I just ordered a horse resin blank, hand and foot hooves from Monoyasha. I know she's a good maker. Does anyone know how heavy her small horse hooves are? They said they're lightweight..also, how do I go about attaching them to a pair of shoes? Could I just score up the inside and then glue them straight on?

The head blank. I'm getting it pre cut and hinged. How do I go about adjusting it to fit my head, if I need to?

I'm going to be casting my own resin eyes to go in the mask. I've done it before..but they've always gotten big bubbles in them every time..or when I glue two lenses together to get the follow me effect, the super glue makes them look cloudy..

I'm getting a pair of large cloppers, that come in sets of eight. I'm guessing two of my fingers are in one?

1/2 inch white fur

So I had a half yard of some cheap and thin 1/2 inch fur and I decided to make a handpaw just for practice out of it with a new pattern I came up with.
Anyway, this came out MUCH better then I could have hoped and I want to remake a pair out of much better quality fur.

So I was wondering if you guys know of any fur similar to this but... better. So it is white, 1/2 an inch, and retains the same type of shaggy texture as the fur I used above and I would want it to match MM's white fox fur. I'm thinking that cubby fur would work but I'd have to shave it. I've ordered swatches of white MM fox fur but can't seem to get a cubby swatch so I just wanted to know what you thought.

Months after completing Skunk, my very first costume (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8047004/) I decided to take on a couple commissions from friends who knew the risk of commissioning someone who is still in the very early learning stages of costume crafting. And so, I reveal to you all one of my first commissioned suits! Dzala the Pallas Cat!

Hopefully her new owner will send me lots of nice photos of her being warn with her full Mongolian get-up!

Resin head questions?

Hey guys, I'm new here. I've creeped for a while, actually, but I'm going to be getting a resin head (already cut and hinged) in a few weeks and I have some questions. Well...a lot of questions. Please answer as many as you can ;-;

It's going to be a realistic horse suit of my character, Kwintikal (Kwinn for short). He's a horse / antelope mix.

My first question--how do I add ears / horns to a resin blank? I want the ears to have a bit of springy-ness to them, so I thought of adding in some springs..but..how do I make them stay on the resin? Do I have to drill into it, or is there another way? And the horns are going to be made out of sealed paper clay--can I just add a bit of clay to the resin and glue it on? and would I do that before or after furring?

I found a tutorial on deer ears (http://beetlecat.livejournal.com/31129.html) and was wondering if that'd be useable for horse ears, or if they'd be too floppy?

Eyes. I was going to order eyes with LEDs in them to go with the head..but they were a good seventy dollars and I know I could do it for cheaper. I've read about an adhesive called E6000 to use to glue the two eyes together to make a follow me style eye.

http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/e-6000-adhesive-511352/

is this the stuff?

and do I put the end the LED in the eye when I first pour the resin, or do I like..drill a hole in the eye after it's done setting? What's the chance of one of them shorting out or something and having to be replaced? Is that possible without destroying it all?

Do you put a balaclava in a resin head, or does the fur itself just make the back of the head?

Hey Fursuit community! i am going to be making my first fullsuit soon and was looking for input on how to go about making it. im making Bunnymund from Rise of the Guardians, and im trying to attempt a realistic looking suit, or rather a suit that looks more like the movie than toony or extremely realistic. on the character, he has large digitigrade legs. i was looking for maybe a sketch or explanation of where i should place the foam to make it look like its farther down the leg? and i also want a rabbit like look to the feet, so i was just thinking extend the front of the foot like a flipper? heres my initial idea:

would this work? these techniues are abit challenging for my first fullsuit, but im trying to challenge myself. i would be extremely grateful if anyone would redline or come up with a sketch of how i should attempt this? heres the original character too:

Fursuit Conversion

Some of you might remember the cutie-pie, but poorely built fursuit I made months ago named Callix. Well, I am making an Ewok and I just sat down to start tonight, when suddenly an idea hit me.

I've wanted to sell Callix for money for a while, now, but I didn't want to strip him. Even money isn't motivation enough to get me to promote my own finances because I had so much damn trouble constructing him .It still hurts to think about tearing up what I spent hours upon hours and sanity brain cells trying to make look good when, in the end, it wasn't actually that good. Not like I thought it would be.

So I was thinking. I'm making an Ewok and I'm making a suit for a friend. I've ran out of balaclava's except, the other day my mom provided me with one. If I convert Callix's fat head into my Ewok, I save time, foam, materials, AND I can make my friend's head base by using the new balaclava I have as well as pull parts I cut off of  Callix and use them on her fursuit head.

This is, actually a great idea, because I built Callix waaay too big for a normal suit head and it would make a great huge Ewok head! Nice and cuddly!

I guess, what's left is me arguing with myself about my attachment to his current form and look. I've made mental notes that what i can cut off of him won't be going to waste. His muzzle can be sawed off and placed on my friend's head. So can his ears. They can be modified a bit and updated, I've figured out how to make realistic foam ears since his debut.

I like this idea and it gives me more motivation to it, but I'm just a bit sad to see him go.  If you guys confirm it, I think I'll do it because it hadn't occurred to me how much use he could be of, before. Its hard, though because I haven't really used him and he's still in good shape, but, all the more to turn him into an Ewok!

Also, I feel so pressed for time. THis damn idea is an energy, time, and material saver!

Well, I'm not what the point of this is anymore, the more I type the more pumped I get. I guess, I'm sharing this because, if anybody on here has a fursuit that didn't quite...make it into the world and is about to be aborted, you can STILL do something with it to save time and energy. I hope I didn't waste space, but novice builders can use this if they made a suit and its just a no go, when it comes to selling it. Use its body parts and update it! You save soo much time!

HELP! Adhesive for foam sandals to rubber mat OR something to add to bottom for durability?!

$

So i've tried these glues to attach foam mats (grey cookie cut-out ones) to rubber mats and NONE of them worked!

Elmer's spray glue (suggested by the hardware store) - did not attach at all.
Flooring glue (suggested by the other hardware store) - never dried.
Hot glue (tried it myself, might try it again) - came off.
Rubber Cement (want to try this but not sure on result, anyone know)?

So, is there a GLUE THAT REALLY WORKS? Or something that dries faster than the flooring glue? I let it sit under pressure for 1-2 days. I need 1 day drying max.

---***Or does anyone have any ideas for making my own rubber on the bottom thats heavily durable for under sandals? Something that will stay on and be the slowest thing to wear down?

---***How about making a mixture of chemicals or applying something to the bottom? You know those artificial turfs/rubber mats that are gritty? Maybe it would stick to the bottom VERY well and not wear down? I have a feeling the rubbery pieces would come off D:

In the process of ordering materials for my third suit, I found out that smooth-on ''doesnt offer its online site to customers outside the US''. I can't find an email to contact them on and I'm not sure i can phone them up to order their resin and silicone. Are there any other sites you'd recommend to buy from that ship to the UK? Thanks!

This is how it looks in the picture

But i was curious to see if anyone had used it on a suit before
Im making a Bunnymund fursuit, so im looking for a dark grayish blue fur that would pass. If no decent color fur exists i may have to airbrush the entire back and arms of the suits. Thanks :)

For those who make feetpaws with furry bottoms and cast pawpads, what are your methods for seamlessly piecing together the sole fur to the foot fur? I have only just recently started attempting this style of foot so I'm a bit behind the curve :p

I am gluing it because IMO glue will be stronger over time than sewing would in this particular location, but, so far, doing it in a totally seamless way has continued to elude me. Are there any special methods or it is just a matter of going very very slow and being very very careful.

quick question about dtd's.

I've find plenty if tutorials out there on how to make a ducktape dummy, but where can i find a tutorial on how to build a fursuit with it when I'm done?

Help making duct tape pattern for ears!

$

I FINALLY settled on an ear pattern and have foamed one of the ears to my liking! Sadly, I'm unsure of how to go about patterning out the ear pieces.. I did the inside of the ear, as that was the easiest since it's just a flat piece. The rest of the ear, however (back, sides) boggles me as to the easiest way to go about splitting it up into patterns.

Does anyone have some images/diagrams of how they went about separating the various parts of their ears into sections for easy assembly?

Also, I'm leaving about a 1cm seam allowance (it's actually more likely quite a bit more than that), and even that seems like it would be SUPER bulky when I go to glue the sewed ear pieces together @_@ Is that too much/not enough allowance?

Hi everybody! This is my first post here, and I'm a bit of a fursuit newbie, so I'm hoping some of you could help me out.

I'm going to be posting this entry under a cut because it is a bit picture heavy, if that's okay!

Recently, I purchased a new fursuit! It was a pre-made/pre-worn suit. They said it was built for somebody 5'5 but could fit somebody taller. Reading that, I took the plunge and bought the suit! Even if it was a little too short (I'm about 5'7 and a half) I thought it would still be alright.

The suit is beautiful, but the body is obviously short on me - to the point where you can see a lot of my calves, as you can see in the pictures below:
photo 2
photo 3
photo 4

Not only that, but the suit is well fitting in every area except for the legs/thighs, which make it have a boxy look.

So what I'm wondering is how do I fix the short-ness of the suit and also make the legs a bit more form fitting if possible? (The suit being tighter in the legs doesn't really bother me much; while it's something I'd like, it's also not a deal-breaker for wearing the suit. I'm more interested in fixing the shortness problem first!)
I also want them to be able to look well with the feet paws; I'm really not wanting to make new foot paws, but if I have to I will.

Another thing that I'm curious about is the furs used. Like I said before, I'm kind of a newbie when it comes to things like this so I'm not entirely sure what furs are what!
For the legs, I'm looking for two kinds of furs.

The fur on the bottom/leg of the bodysuit:
photo 2
photo 3
(I had somebody at the meet-up I went to tell me that the fur was something "copper" while the rest of the furs might be DF furs?)

And the fur that was used on the arms (I think it's minky?? I also think it might be Mendel's short pile in Coffee?):
photo 4

If anybody has any pointers and can help me identify the types of fur I'd be eternally grateful! (Also, gosh I hope these aren't too many questions!)

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Digi legs styles and paw styles

So ive seen plenty of digi leg styles and different ways of making them. I have some unfinished sock paws lying around. They dont have fur but they have claws and such. I also have this weird quirk of when I dont wear shoes I walk on my tip toes. Ive never seen this style but have people just walked on their tip toes in sock paws and it looked like digi legs? Or would that joint be too low?
Also about the paws. I'm wanting to try something new and I was wondering if anyone had experience with this. I don't want hand paws per say. But more claws. I found a picture on DA that was relatively close to what I'm talking about. (Credit to artist of course.)
http://rinermai.deviantart.com/art/Pessamistic-Melancholy-349932282?q=gallery%3Arinermai%2F29532925&qo=31
Quick drawing I did as well:

If this has been done before it would be nice to know how easy it would be to grip things and also going about making them?
Thanks for the help!

Edit: So thanks to killercactiim going with the digi boot idea. Only problem is where to find good boots that aren't chunky with heels. I've seen some pretty bad digi boots. Walmart maybe? Or should I just make my own boots with thick boot fabric? I'm willing to experiment and try out some theories :3
