Crits/Questions re: feet

$

So I finally bought myself some foam to play with, and took the old semi-broken shoes i have from last year, and made feet! Of course, it's nooooowhere near done - i haven't finished taping (i'm thinking this tape was a test drive - it's not even duck tape) and i'm certainly not furring yet. But i did most/all of the foam and i'm decently happy with it? I tried a method i've never seen used before but it's what makes the most sense to me. What i'm concerned about is how well the toes will show up after furring!

(sorry - phone camera quality!)
Before tape:

After tape:

I hate big fursuit parts. It's just a pet peeve, i really want things to be proportional and i'm a small guy. I based my method around having more accurate proportions... And i know this might be sacrificing the toes, but i'd really love for them to show even a little bit.. With the tape looking how it is, does it look like the toes will show up? Or will i have blob feet x.x
Any advice helps - this is my first timeand i want to learn :3

Suggestions for needles to use on fleece fabric needed please! Added: Spandex + hand sewing needles

I recently bought a new machine (Janome My Style 100) which I like EVEN MORE than my Juki HZL series machine!

1) Needed: recommendations (needles/threads) for sewing upholstery thread on to fleece.
When I pull the fabric it stretches and the thread itself stretches. No looping issues.

Solved: Ball point needle (10/70 or 12/80 or 14/90) + Coats & Clark Dual Duty XP General Purpose Thread (I will also try the heavy kind, just to see what happens- but just the Dual Duty XP thread I am now satisfied with actually)

2) Needed: recommendations (needles/threads) for spandex material (for digitigrade legs).

3) Needed: recommendations for durable hand sewing needles that work with as much ease as possible (for faux fur).

I greatly appreciate your help and recommendations! When I find answers to these I will update my questions to show answers so this can be used as a reference to those in need.

Digitigrade padding...

... Is accomplished through making pillows and stuffing them into the legs. Right? Having a really bad forget moment.

I keep seeing people add foam to separate pants and I have never had luck (nor much movement) with this.

Thanks.

I have a set of Andis clippers with the default blade - 10, and a 7FC Ceramic Edge. What other blades would be good to have around? And is the Ceramic blade inferior to the Normal (Steel) blade at all, I got it because I heard it didn't get as hot.

Black eye rings? 'Eyelashes'

Hey guys! I'm almost done with my revamp of my first head, Spooky 2.0, and I'd like some feedback/critique/anything. I also still need to add those black rings around the eyes; I used foamies before but they were a little difficult to cut and work with and make look nice, plus they were kind of fragile. I do have black fleece and some styrene I could cut and paint black. thoughts?

How Do I Make Boobs, Stompy Feet, And Blanket Stitch?

Hello, I am new to the group and have some questions. I am making myself a fursuit body for my DHC Bunny Delilah. But I want her to look feminine. I have NOW idea how to go about making breasts. I tried circles they looked too... out there and not natural. I would enjoy some ideas of what to do to get a C cup look.

Stompy feet... I have yet to find a good tutorial for this one either. I am unsure out to go about it, and I would enjoy not having to add shoes either if possible because most shoes cut mu heels even if used out. I have sensitive feet.

Lastly a blanket stitch. I looked it up online but there were three I saw and they all were different. So I haven't the idea as to what a blanket stick really is... Or if someone could show me how they stitch their heads, bodies, and other fur parts that'd be great! I will post pictures of progress on this thread as well to save space in the community. THANK YOU!

New best way to wash a fursuit?

$

Hello all! I was browsing the internet, as we all do, and came across this:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/dolfi-next-gen-washing-device

Should it actually work and be put in production, I think this might be the easiest way to wash a fursuit. The gist of it is you plop the thing into a tub/sink/tote with hand wash only or delicate items, plug it in, and it will wash it using ultrasonic waves. This thing is small enough to fit into nearly any bag, so going to a con with this handy thing is easy. Think of it, near hassle free fursuit washing. We'd never have to worry about stinky body suits again!

I'm super excited about this!

Looking for some furs

Are there any stretch furs besides NFT? I just need a little bit of black stretch fur to make some elbow-length gloves, but I don't really want to shell out $60 per sq. foot if I can avoid it. ;;

I'm also looking for a dull yellow-green fur (think "dead grass") that's roughly this colour:
Screen shot 2015-03-11 at 5.27.04 PM
Everything I've seen so far has either been too bright, too golden, or too dark green. Does fur like this exist, or will I have to dye my own?

Thanks! c:

hey all it's been a looong time since i've posted here but it's such a helpful community i thought i'd return for some advice on my newest fursuit making endeavor

i'm trying to find this goldish-yellow color for a lemur of mine i'm making:
goldshit
i'd need it to be DF solid long hair fur length at least because my character is a little unkept and shaggy looking.  also if anyone has pics of DF's yellow sparkle fur being used i'd appriciate seeing them too because it's one i've been considering it for this particular suit as well.  thanks!!

Detachable Resin Hoof Parts? Cleaning?

$

Hello!

My name is Tippy! I'm a long-time lurker, first time poster.

I was hoping to get a bit of advice regarding hooves. I have been conceptualizing my fursuit for a long time now and pretty much have everything figured out save a few minor details.

I plan on creating my hooves and finger caps out of resin. However, I am concerned about the long-time durability of resin products. I have done extensive research and found little/no care information concerning resin parts, specifically hands/feet.

Especially since my goat character is composed of light and pastel colors, I forsee plenty of washing in the future. Of course, hand washing these delicate parts of the suit is preferred. But could you simply toss hooved gloves in the wash? Some research told me resin can be relatively easily dented or scratched and I do not think a washer is the best place for them to be. Then again, I do not even know if washing resin in the first place is a good idea, hehe.

In my research, I stumbled across a pair of faun legs made my Monoyasha/Flurrycat and was really inspired by one feature in particular: the fur attached onto the hoof/shoe! The video can be found here. Suddenly, my mind began racing. Detachable hooves! Well, using her design, it would be more like attaching the fur to whatever stable base it would need to secure to. However, if it were possible to completely subtract resin from the equation of washing, care would not even be a question (save wiping off or spot treatment, maybe varnish or protective coating if necessary).

Regarding detachable hooves, it seems pretty clear for the feet hooves, but what about the finger caps? I'm having a few issues imagining how to best make finger caps removable. Short of some velcro inside the cap and on the finger portion of the glove, I am lacking in ideas. Would that be a good feature to implement anyway? I would hate to pick up something or shake someone's hand and off comes a hoof cap! Oh goodness!

Here is Tippy's Ref Sheet:

And here are the faun legs Mono made:

Also found here.

Well, sorry for the wall of text. tl;dr:

-Are resin fursuit parts washable? If so, what is the best method?

-Are removable feet and hand hooves a good idea or more trouble than they would be worth?

-Would you be freaked out if you suddenly accidentally removed a goat's fingernail?!

Hello Fur Folks,
I am building a fursuit for my mate, and he wants a really elastic jaw that he can lip sync with to songs. I didn't see anything specific on the memories or tags, so can y'all point in the direction of head construction methods that emphasize elastic jaws?

I'm making a fursuit of this kid ( one more ref for good measure, she's supposed to be a pharaoh hound/monster mix), and I was wondering what short-pile fur to get. I can only find one, and it's a little out of my price range at $25 a yard. Any suggestions?

Also, there's some bones/spines, i know I'm buying the spines, but what do you guys suggest i make the bones out of? Thanks!
