Okay so I did some editing to the muzzle to try and make it look more arctic fox like, just wondering if it looks alright.
Something still seems off to me though, not sure what it is though.
I'm starting to lose hope with this cuz I just can't get it to look right, heh.
Bear in mind that it's just pinned down for now, and the strip of foam on top of it is just to see where the 'slant' will go to make it look more natural.
Pics in the cut:

The more I look at it the more discouraged I get, is there anything that can beat feeling like that when it comes to fursuit making?

I'm sorry if I'm posting a lot btw.

DIY - $6/Cheap Bodysuit Hanger Dryer (Video)

So I found this... thought it would be good to leave here, possible put into the memories sections. Cheap, easy, even has an option for DC power plug. Also, I would either get a super nice heavy duty formal wear hanger OR I'd actually stop by a motorcycle store and ask if they have any hangers from the coats, which in my experience have flared ends and a rounded top to open up the garment more (meant for bike jackets with armor in the shoulders).

Need Help Finding Fur!

Elastic help?

Alright I know it's a minor thing, but I need some serious help with elastic for my head.
I have a friend who wants to fursuiting skits and stuff with me who is practically begging me to do a moving jaw, but she won't let me to it the way I think is the most secure. She throws a hissyfit everytime I try talking about doing it "the hard way" (3 pieces of elastic like most people seem to do it and sewn to the balaclava) and I don't even know if her "easy way" will hold.
The way she has her elastic is completely different than the ways I've seen others do it. Not only did she glue the elastic to the balaclava, but she put it on in such a way that it seems like it kind of defeats the purpose of having the elastic in the first place. She has one piece of elastic going around the bottom of her head from her chin and one long piece attached to the going over her head. Would this hold? Or even help the jaw to bounce back at all when she furs it? Also is gluing the elastic to the balaclava a good idea at all?
I hate for this to sound like I'm just ranting about my friend but I really want to know if the way she's doing it makes any sense at all. I mean, I already accidentally made my mannequin head an inch too big, I don't need the elastic to make things harder, too.

Pallid Bar Fursuit Concept - Could it Work?

Hello, fursuiters! This is my first ever livejournal entry, as well as my first foray into building a fursuit, so please bear with me. I have been a furry for about 5 years now, but have finally decided it would be fun to put myself out there more. I decided there was no time like the present to get started on a suit, and at the very least it would be an excellent Halloween costume for years to come. :)

Anyway! Here are links to 2 rough, hand drawn concepts for what I am hoping to accomplish with this suit. Taken from my phone (no scanner) but I think they should be clear enough to demonstrate what I want.

The overall costume
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v330/Drekana/Fursuit1.jpg?t=1410473212
Just the mask, profile.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v330/Drekana/Fursuit2.jpg?t=1410473229

Basically, I am going for a semi-realistic (not too cartoony) anthro bat look. Specifically modeled after a Pallid Bat, my fursona. I imagine the mask could be 2 parts (see photo 2) and the suit itself would be one piece, with a zipper in the back. I also plan to wear a shirt and/or shorts over the top of the suit so it will have a bit more personality. This makes it kind of a fusion between a full and partial suit, but I think the uniqueness could help it stand out.

I have read several topics/memories that warned about large wings, but I think I can get away with these if I can fold them as depicted in the first photo. To me, they are integral to the whole thing looking and feeling right.

I also annotated with a bunch of ideas about materials/ideas on specific parts.

So, what do you all think? Is this too big a dream for a first-time suiter? Any suggestions for materials or techniques? This is just preliminary, so any advice/critiques/suggestions are welcomed and appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Drekana the Pallid Bat

Looking for fur

I was wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head a good, short-pile, brownish black fur. I'm intending to make a pair of red fox paws, and I didn't want to go with a straight black if I can help it. I'm thinking probably seal length, so I don't have to do any shaving on it.

I will be ordering swatches, but I kind of wanted a little guidance before I start more 10+ swatch orders.

If I can't find anything, my backup plan is to use black beaver since I'm familiar with it.

About how much fur would I need?

Looking for bright white long pile fur

Can anyone suggest a long (1.5"+) pile bright white fur? I have some white fur on hand but only one that it is a nice bright white. Most of them are a warm or cool off-white in comparison.

Foamwork advice

Hi there, since redesigning my sona I'm remaking my fursuit.
I've done my tail and footpaws so far and foamed the head.
I'm nearly ready to fur, I'm gonna be changing out the ears to be more
concave, and will make the gap between the eyes slightly bigger and
smooth down the eyebrows to blend them a bit better.

Just wondering if anyone had any more tips/advice/thoughts on my head so far?
Consructive crit preferred. I want this head to be great looking c:

Oh and it's to be a German Shepherd. I'm going for semi-toony/toony.

Mendel's Tipped Fox

Does anyone have samples of Mendel's Tipped Fox furs they can snap a photo of for me? ( http://mendels.com/Tipped-Fox.html )

Particularly interested in Brandy. It looks like the perfect color I need for a project, but Mendel's swatch order form has been giving me errors all week. I'm fairly confident the color will work, but I'd love to see it under different lighting or possibly compared to the other Tipped Fox colors.

how to fix this foam base?

so at first, hey ya'all.
i'm currently making a fursuit head in a rush - i must finish it before wednesday. the only problem is that the only avaible material at the moment was foam - and i'm bad at working with it... that's my third head, first was plastic mesh and foam and it came out really bad, second was resin base and i was happy with it.
the main thing is that something is off about this base. also i'm out of bigger pieces of foam, just scraps left, so i can't remake it or make some really big fixes...

(lol, that last pic is scary)
i know the eyes are bit failed too, but i have no craft foam left also and i can't remake them. the nose is just a placeholder, it doesn't fit at all and seems to small.
he's going to be a generic, natural coloured wolf.

Gluing on a fursuit "mohawk"?

I'm having a bit of trouble gluing on my fursuit's mohawk. The mohawk is just a 2 inch wide strip of long blue fur going down the back of her neck. However, I'm trying to figure out the best way to glue it on to make it look realistic. Any advice?

However, if there are any other methods involving faux fur to make a mohawk, please tell me! Thanks!

Finding short pile furs

Hey guys! This community is always a lifesaver so I was wondering if y'all could help me find some furs. A friend of mine is commissioning me for paws and arm sleeves to match a head being made but it is for a dinosaur character so it's not very fluffy.

The furs requested were these: Neon Highlighter Yellow - http://fursuitsupplies.com/index.ph.....product_id=297
Neon Pink - https://www.fabric.com/buy/220856/f.....shag-neon-pink
Neon Green - https://www.fabric.com/buy/214836/f.....hag-neon-green

My clippers aren't really the best and I'm apprehensive about shaving large areas evenly enough. Does anyone know of seal or cubby furs in these colors? Any help is appreciated~

Wanting to trade custom plush work for a resin base

$

Hey guys!
I'm in need of a resin canine base, preferably something with a narrow muzzle (like fox) as it'll be altered with foam to get the shape I need. I find resin bases to be quite comfortable compared to having foam pressed all over my face as my foam heads usually end up doing. ^^;
I can't cast resin any more simply because well...I'm highly allergic to uncured resin. I break out in a miserable itchy rash along my arms that I don't really want to relive. So I need someone to cast one for me! Or perhaps, someone already has one cast they're willing to part with?
Inside must be quite smooth and nothing super lumpy/heavy/thick. But I'm not really wanting anything thin and fragile either. Can be a miscast with a few drips inside, no big deal I know how to fix that quickly.
I prefer one toony as I'll need the "larger' eye sockets for the character I will be doing.
In exchange I'll make you a custom chibi plushie of your selected character (please, nothing overly complicated...no stripey cats/spots for the sake of my sanity) http://bluewolfcheetah.deviantart.com/art/Chibi-Shiny-Espeon-plush-SOLD-304403805 kind of like this, but I can do one "teddy bear" style for anthromorphic characters :)
I need the base ASAP but I do work full time, I will do my best to promptly get your plush done.

To contact me more easily it's best to PM me on deviantART or email me at Kaylala 90 AT aol dot com

Sewing in markings without cutting holes in the base fur?

$

Heya guys.
Usually I just cut out the base fur in the shape of the marking I want it (the horror, I know) . As I have never really understood how to just sew markings directly onto the fur without having some sort of seam to attach the marking seam to.
But I have gotten to a part of the bodysuit I'm making where the marking I want to sew in will be directly over a leg seam,so just cutting out a stripe shape will not work as it'll destroy the whole seam xD

So can someone please explain in simple terms how to sew in marking directly onto base fur? Everytime I've tried it you can directly see the thread getting tangled in the fur and it doesn't look nice and it's just annoying me now.

Sorry if this has confused anyone! Any and all help is appreciated.

Lips/mouth

Hi everyone
I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on what to do for my fursuit lips. (mostly toony style)
Ive seen people glue down black fleece (or other material) before adding the fur. What do you guys usually do for where the fur ends and the insides of the mouths begin? I've been sewing the two together to keep the edge a bit more hidden but Im thinking theres gotta be an easier way to do this XD
Also maybe good ways to do the corners of the mouth?
anyways thanks in advance =3
