tumblr_mltm78fqQA1r01dp9o1_1280

and i was wondering what kind of shade of red would be best for the darker pink/red ? i'm thinking about going with either DF baby pink or DF bubblegum pink for the lighter shade (i'm gonna order watches of both and compare which is better) but i have no idea which color would fit the best for the darker one. any ideas ?

Critiques so far + a way to clean foam?

Sorry for the many submissions lately. ;o;

So, I'm working on my 4th mask, a cow. Does it look like a cow to you? P:
Also I have questions about cleaning and disinfecting foam.

cow side
cow front

This mask has a moving jaw. Ignore the eyes/eyebrows, I drew on my mannequin head because I'm getting a cfx head tomorrow. ;w;

Now, about the foam. I have some not-so-cheap high density green foam (as seen on the ears above). I have a large sheet of it, which I recently discovered was... soiled. The cat threw up on it, and somehow ended up all over the middle of this foam sheet. Luckily I had some big scraps I made the ears from.
Is there a way I can clean and disinfect the foam sheet? Or should I just waste it? ;-;

Doing a rush order for AC. I barely have the time but I just adored the design and knew it would be absolutely perfect for me. I chose to build off my big cat resin blank. It will be a 3/4 suit, crossing fingers for pro shots at the convention.

3M, you have failed me.

I did some archive diving here a while ago, looking for the best adhesive to hold my DVC silicone pawpads to the internal structure of my feetpaws/handpaws.

It's a bit tricky because 1) the forefeet are actually going onto ABS pipe, which I used to construct the frames of my stilts, and b) the hind feet are going on to a pair of mostly-dead FiveFingers, on which I wore the soles so bald you could probably polish glass with them. I needed an adhesive that would conquer the smooth surfaces as well as the unusual rubber in use in the Vibrams.

I decided on 3M Marine Adhesive/Sealant 5200. Now: it is amazing how well it holds to both the ABS and the Vibram. I think I'd have to actually cut it off to get it to let go.

What it doesn't hold is the silicone pawpads. Shear seems to be OK, and that's the main reason I'm not grumbling right now about cutting the sealant off of everything it did attach to, but any amount of pulling, and - pop! - off it comes. I think it'll hold fine under normal use, in which my pawpads will not be getting yanked on, but I'm a bit worried about having to manipulate the pads for sewing, as I'll be stitching fabric right through the edges. DVC embeds fabric in their pads for that very reason, and I don't want to settle for gluing - I don't trust a glued seam on a foot not to come loose and get full of dirt.

I'll be touching up the pulled areas with Shoe Goo, but be warned: 5200 is amazing stuff, but its weeks-long cure time (18 days in my dry, cold climate) and inferior hold do not make it worth my while in this application.

where do you put sowing lines on a dtd?

I've tried Google and the memories. But I'm either not wording it right or just can't find it.
It just tells me how to make one.

I've layered over my dtd, but I have no idea where you put the lines to cut and sow it.
It's just a basic padded suit, one color.

First Tail Completed!

I finished my first tail ever last night!

right

Sorry if it looks a bit fuzzy in these pictures, I was just trying to take a few quick pics before bed, and didn't smooth anything out for them. I trimmed all the fur down by hand, and might work on evening it out a little bit more this evening.
top
This tail has a carved foam armature in it, and just a little bit of stuffing around that to help with the shape some.
left
I wanted it to stick out straighter than it ended up hanging, but I might be able to adjust the belt loops a little bit to help with that. The fur ended up being a bit heavier than I thought it would be!
tail worn

I think my next project will just be a nice easy canine tail of some sort :P. For some reason my first attempt at anything is always probably more ambitious than it should be.

Going to take a shot at making my first fursuit and still kind of undecided how I want to do a few things looking to see if anyone can give some incite.

it is based on my armadillo http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9983097/

Going to use short pile fur for the tan parts and was thinking of making fleece pockets and filling them with thin craft foam for a little extra rigidity to make the armor plates. Was wondering what method of attachment over the fur would work was thinking hot glue but not sure how well that would work out.

I finished her quite a while ago but I realized I forgot to post to this community! You guys helped me before so I wanted to show you how it turned out.
I adore this community of helpful people and tutorials and I've spent a lot of time trawling through the memories section- it's fun~
So here, I hope you like her!

It's gonna be a rush, but I wanted to try doing a decent job at bringing this baby in for AnthroCon. Started maybe two weeks ago and have been working between this and job before getting referred over here.

Excuse iPhone and poor coloring. I like experimenting with multiple arts but I'm no master at any. Hopefully decent quality for AC.

I'm still adding foam before I can start sculpting this head out, but I wanted to know if anyone could catch any glaring mistakes before I block out regions.

I've conceded that I haven't made enough room for fan, more worried about room for glasses. A little concerned that the minimal-size thing will look bad. I could wear like a black chinguard and that might hide my face, but the opening of the beak doesn't align with my actual mouth; might be negligible. The jaw might function fine if rather small to open.

Other concerns:
Any tips for making something like wire wings? I'm no constructionist, so I need some ideas about something that can suspend off the body without falling under its own weight. They'd be rather small wings with a bit of fur and fluff on them.

I found some ~2 foot lyrebird feathers at Hobby Lobby, but they're completely straight. Could I apply like a curling iron to them to get the shape I want?

Should I mount ears before or after furring? I couldn't pull up very helpful information from Google and I think it's just personal preference. I'm leaning for postfurring though and would appreciate some pointers.

Not much found on Google for mounting eyes either. Maybe I'm just bad at keywording properly.

Hey there! I'm thinking of starting my fursuit building business soon, and I need a TOS. The only problem is, I've never made a TOS before, and I have no idea on what to put on it! Would anyone be able to give me a pointer or two? Thanks in advance!

Bodysuit Pouch/Pockets?

My fursuit character is a cat, but I need to carry my phone around at conventions at all times (health/safety issues) and I thought that maybe making a little pouch in the front would be a nifty idea?
Thing is, my body suit is plantigrade and my body type may not support it. (5'3" and 105lbs)

I purchased a little lanyard case incase this idea sounds dumb, but I was just wondering if it seemed like a good idea and how I'd do about doing it.

Thanks!

DF swatch delivery?

I recently set up an account on the Distinctive Fabrics site to get the five free swatches they offer. I ordered them on the 10th and received confirmation of the order, but I still haven't gotten confirmation that they were shipped out. :c

Is this timeframe typical for swatch orders?

Angel Dragon Squeaker Revealed!

This is how Telephone made her squeaker! You just take a squeaky dog toy and take the squeaker out, cut off the circle part, and then place your mouth against the part that the circle was connected to and blow. If not it sounds exactly like her, so if you're an angel dragon this is good news for you!

I actually was just browsing videos and Tenino's vid helped me figure it out! Here's her example of a premade being used.

Rayman Fursuit; Looking for Ideas.

Hey all, me again. This time with a personal project!
I want to make a Rayman costume for Halloween, but need some tips. For those of you who don't know...this is Rayman:

I was wondering what the best way to attack this cosplay would be. I have an all-foam head base from a dragon I was working on, and was wondering if I could convert it? Or could I tear off the muzzle and add it to a canvas base? The dragon head is a bit 'clunky' and large, whereas this Rayman has a pretty thin head....

Also links to wip fursuits with similar shapes would be helpful. Any ideas feel free to post 'em. I'm in the brainstormin stage right now, so all thoughts welcome. :D

Sooo In the last..... week? ish? I've busted out 3 foam bases *and officially finished up my first completed suit head, barring many previous false starts over the last... year and a half? Ish?* And I'm pretty happy with them so far, as are their commissioners :D As a little forethought, I've done a LOT of sculpting through highschool and college, mostly for college things and just as hobby stuff off and on with the same lumps of clay over the last couple of years *plastiline is amazing<3* So I have a decent concept on 3D shapes, but getting used to foam was the tricky part.

New DF/Luxury Shag/Punky Muppet Colors @ Mendel's

So I just got a couple new swatches in from Mendel's today, since they've added a few new colors to their repertoire. So I thought I'd share some photos of 'Venetian Red', 'Fuschia', and 'Plum' in case anyone else was interested!

The 'Venetian Red' seems to be a new dye lot of Maroon. It has less of a purple hue now and is more just a very dark red. I didn't have a sample of Maroon immediately accessible, so here's a comparison photo of 'Venetian Red' vs 'Dark Red'

And onto the more interesting set! I'm guessing that 'Fuschia' (bottom right) is equivalent to FursuitSupplies's 'Bubblegum Pink'? It's a much warmer shade of pink than the 'Hot Pink' that's for sure!

And above it is the sample of 'Plum', which is a super pretty dusty violet color! Shown in comparison with the standard Purple/HotPink striped DF fur.

I recall a couple folks asking about very similar colors recently, so I hope this helps out! Yay new colors of fur! (Now we just need them to make a mint green XD)

Help with fur colors?

I'm looking for these colors. Note that the first two are not black, they're lighter than the arctic fox black I have. I'm just looking for a charcoal, closer or between either of the two shades. Everything I've looked at has been far too dark. Any help would be much appreciated!

Also, the Tissavel charcoal is a perfect match, but it's a bit too pricey. Something along the lines of that would be superb.
