A possible new foam or neoprene replacement?

In my day jobbe, I work in a company that makes infant products like strollers and play yards.  I was talking with one of the people in the fabric department and they were working with a material I had never seen before.  I asked them what it was called and if they'd give me a sample.  They did, and I looked it up.

At work they called it sandwich mesh, but I found more info online under the name 3D Spacer Mesh.  Other keywords are zonal sandwich mesh, or square sandwich mesh.

In my hands it feels like a very soft neoprene or thin foam. It is absolutely breathable, holding it in front of my mouth there is no restriction or claustrophobia.  Instead of trying to describe it, here is a link to a forum with a really good closeup picture. (4th post down)

The stuff we have at work has a light, see through, fabric on the outside, instead of the ropy mesh in the picture.  It's about 1/16" thick.

I haven't spent much time researching it, but what I have seen seems to be centered around the backpacking/hiking field.

Here is a link to a manufacturer. http://www.baltex.co.uk/spacerfabrics/

I have no idea where you would get this stuff, but I wanted to pass it on in case anyone wants to research it.
