Searching for a thick purple fur!

I got swatches in recently from Fabricempire and fabric.com and I'm not happy with either of their purples. I'm a little loathe to try distinctivefabric but they're next on the list and the last resort is mohairbear (which will be expensive for my poor commissioner.)

Anyone got any suggestions?

Problem with leg padding. Red line?

I'm simply having a problem with my digitgrade legs, having adjusted my current set of legs 3 times no matter what, the lower part ends up looking like a giant human calf. Now I plan to start from scratch with them and working on a pony suit as well, for heat/body/luggage reasons I'm trying to use the least amount of foam possible since my calf makes up for a good amount, while also getting the right shape.

I'm merely hoping for suggestions on the shape itself as well as forming itself. Previously I did foam carvings in pockets for cleaning ease, this time I think I will permanently attach the foam. :/ I also thought of keeping the pocket method but using expanding foam better carved to fit around my calf. The main problem is the hock point would be right about the bend of my knee and I think it ends up shifting and the whole thing just follows the curve of my calf.

Plush chibi style wings

I've been searching the internet for tutorials and/or pics of how to create plush looking, chibi style wings for the fursuit I am going to create and I have found nothing. I saw ONE pic that showed a glimpse of plush wings, but now I've looked all day and can't find it again. I am an experienced costumer, have never made a fursuit, and I would love a visual on something like this. I have no problem with drafting a pattern for the wings, but I am a very visual person and would like to at least see a pic of some. Does anyone have any experience with making this style of wings? What length of fur would be best for these? Also, what would be the best way to attach the wings to the fursuit? Thanks in advance!!

I am soooo close to get my blank I can almost taste it. It looks like this if you must know. X3
so I am looking for furs in these colours. My colour picker muted/darkened a lot of these but I can assure you the one on the end is supposed to be white.
Mind you I'm not too picky. It's all about how these colours work together.
Colour 1 is a cool grey
Colour 2 can be anything from a rust to a gold. Think the brown you see on coyotes.
Colour 3 is a light grey (or dark white I suppose) it looks blue in the picture. (Fursuit supplies' silver?)
And colour 4 is white. I'll have no problem finding that one.
Tell me about your favorite types of fur in these colours! I know the greys are going to be the most difficult to find.

So this is what I have after about 24 hours of work all together over a three day period. This is my first fursuit and I just wanted to get some opinions on my progress so far, I know it's not much to look at but what I'm really concerned with is if the muzzle is too big. Any thoughts?

Looking for golden/pale yellow super seal

$

Hey guys!

I'm hoping to find a pale yellow or golden yellow short fur that's along the lines of super seal or teddy fur. I've found a great color in seal over here: http://www.carolszoo.com/fur/fur3.htm But regular seal is a bit too short for what I want. It's for the legs of a red tail hawk so bright yellow would be a bit too intense. ;) Thanks!

Its been a while since I last bought fur. I used to use http://www.mohairbearmakingsupplies.co.uk/ but was wondering who people recommend in terms of quality and choice. Need to be UK based or at least ship cheaply and quickly to the UK.

Thanks in advance!

Toony or Realism furs? Also, options on wing materials. Such furs, many options.

Alright, I want to make an owl suit. Here's the concept.

http://d.facdn.net/art/yarbro/1397096719.yarbro_owl.png (Make sure you are log in to FA, I lock out guests from seeing my page).

So, basically the fursuit will make these main colors:

Ivory
Camel
Brown
Black

One is that I rather not shave as much as possible. Luckily, you don't need to shave that much for birds but I rather find fur that are shorter than shave something down.

I also like the concept of different fur types and length working together. For example- Longest fur one the chest but short fur one the stomach and around the face, hands, and feet. A great example of people who use this style is Wild-life. So, I will split the fur into three types (Short, medium, and long). Now, Most likely I will not need all three type of furs for each color (That will be a total of 12 type of fur to buy that may or may not include the wing fabric as well). And also where I buy the fur may change (depending on deals and the overall quality of the service also if I can find it locally).

Here are the options for the fur I want to use:

Option 1 (Toony)

Short: http://mendels.com/Super-Seal.html and http://www.imstuffedfur.com/sealfurs.html
Medium: http://mendels.com/Punky-Muppet.html
Long: http://mendels.com/Shaggy-Mongolian.html

Advantages: OMG, I love shag and super seal because it is soft. So soft. Oh so soft.

Soft.

I also have experience with this type of the fur the longest. And I may not need to buy a different fabric type for the wings and tail. Also will have more a unified look because all the fur are the same type.

Disadvantages:

The furs might not be the best for the style of fursuit I want. I want more on the realism side. Also, seal is very glossy, which is a quality I never like about. Also Shaggy Monoglian is meh for a fur. Don't get me wrong it is not terrible by any means- it just clumps a bit.

Option 2: (Realism)

Short: http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=3&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x and http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=6&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x
Medium: http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=2&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x and http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=4&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x
Long: http://www.imstuffedfur.com/wolfcoyotefurs.html or http://www.imstuffedfur.com/highfashion.html with http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=Fur&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=17&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x

Notes: I will be using teddy bear honey or tan and short beige for the "ivory" part. I also need to considered if I want to use the feather fur or wolf fur. The ref sheet is very basic on the design so it basically comes down to personal preference. I might lean towards the feathers because I can find them also on different websites and compare prices. Also, it is an owl. Feathers- owls- duh.

Advantages: It might be the style of furs I want. It leans towards the realism due to the guardhairs and all that fun jazz.

Disadvantages: Some the furs (cr furs) are slightly more coarse which I have to keep that in mind. Also I cannot find short black that is not a seal anywhere. But I don't that would be a huge issue because I don't I need to buy short black for the body itself. So, there is a lack unfied because the furs will be very different from eachother- that I will have to keep in mind.

Wing fabric:

Fleece: http://www.joann.com/blizzard-fleece-fabric-solids/prd7089.html#start=1
Felt: http://shop.hobbylobby.com/fabric-and-sewing/felt/
Velbro (Soild): http://www.fabricempire.com/velboa-solid-faux-fur-fabric.aspx
Minky: http://mendels.com/Cuddles-Light-Neutral-colors.html
Seal: http://mendels.com/Super-Seal.html and http://www.imstuffedfur.com/sealfurs.html

Now, I need to decide the wing fabric. I considering felt because it seems to have the best for the realism; however, I have no clue on it's durability and is it able to be washed. Fleece is kind of a toss up because it have some huge advantages (able to hide seams) or disadvantages (pillars, stretches, and life of it is short). I worked with minky before and it is awesome but it will show your seems no matter what you do (so can be a good or a bad thing). Seal is shiny and it might be too heavy of a fabric to work with.

So, I need your guys opinions on the matter.

Need help on changing/fixing eyes...

$

So I finished up my first suit just in time for Kawaii con last weekend. Though theres a ton of things I have to fix/change. The first being the eyes.

originally I made the eyes and they fit okay in the head, but once I furred the brow and such It ended up making the hole much smaller that the eyes.

Now the hole seems a bit small even if I remade the eyes to sit less deep. I was contemplating just removing them and making 2d toony eyes, though I love 3d toony eyes and really dont want to lose that >.<

any tips, tricks or ideas?

EDIT: I was just looking at her irl and they arent bad in person, but photos make em look horribad.

The suit is the Corgi suit at the end.

Possible alternative to resin

I just heard about this stuff on Tumblr

http://www.instamorph.com/

They're plastic pellets that you heat up in water or with a heat gun, and it becomes moldable plastic. I'd love to try using this to make a mask, when I can buy some. I imagine you could just squish it into a mold. Not sure if it's more expensive in the long run but I thought I'd share it.

So, I -was- going to wait until I finished her (will probably post more when I finish her as a partial/fullsuit) but I've started furring her and I really think she's coming together!

This suit was a lot of work but a lot of fun and she came out super cute, I was going for realism crossed with that cute Japanese fursuit style.

The tails are each 80% crushed up packing peanuts so they are actually really not all that heavy and they swish and bounce around really well!

This was semi-artistic liberty in that the customer gave me a basic drawing and a list of what they wanted and I went to town with the design, coming up with certain things like the back marking and exact face patterning on my own.

The body fur is a lucky local find, a short teddy fur rather than a seal fur, great quality, super thick and with a nice broken up spot pattern that did well in not showing seams... the backing is that odd "carpet style" as I call it though and thus it was very hard to sew and exploded fuzz when cut!

This suit features silicone paw pads and resin claws from Dream Vision Creations and a teddy bear nose, all other work is 100% hand made by me including the hand painted back-lit LED eyes.

Anyone tried this? Just curious + Other questions

Hey!

I'm just curious and have a list of questions -

1. Any one tried using a video baby monitor for vision in a quad suit?
1.5 If that wouldnt work best place for vision mesh?
2. Best way to make easy and light non jointed quadsuit stilts?
3. Quadsuit body suit making, I've searched everywhere and cant find a tutorial, so how would you do that?
4. How much does one cost to make (Fur and foam cost only)

Ok thanks x3

About a week ago I sat in on that Clockwork airbrush livestream and I really gained a lot from it. I think it definitely shows in this last project of mine. I still feel like I can improve on some things, especially the follow-me eye angle.

My first fursuit head so far! I am very proud of how it is turning out, but I still have quite a bit of work to do. I actually ran out of foam tonight and couldn't finish the right brow, and I am going to trim back the left brow so it doesn't take up so much of the head. I also plan on doing floppy ears for her since she is an Australian Shepherd. Thoughts so far? I have gotten things as even as I possibly can without completely starting over, and I already see what I can do better on the next suit head I'm making.

How many of you guys foam it? Originally I wasn't going to -- but now that I'm reaching the stage where I'm going to fur the back of the head and add a neck ... I'm uncertain. Since I'm making a Boston Terrier they have very round heads...which I think I captured well enough from the front .... but I'm wondering if this head would benefit from foam in the back as well? At first I figured my head would fill out the back of the "mask" but I tried it on in front of the mirror today and I find it a bit lacking. However, this head is extremely comfortable and I'm worried an additional layer of foam will be more to keep the heat in.

Thoughts?
