First suit - critiques?

This is my first time posting here and my first suit. I started on this head a couple of days ago and just want a few more opinions on anything else I should or could do to make it better. I've never worked with anything in 3D before, so a second (and third, fourth, etc) opinion is critical, especially from others who have worked on suits and know what to add or subtract to make it look like a well-built head.

A few notes:
-I already started casting resin eyes. Where I've drawn the eyes in are where I will be inserting them and I have good vision from the 'tear ducts' save for my feet (damn cheeks).
-The black is just a foamie. I'm using these to try and achieve a smoother shape more easily.
-The jaw seems a little lopsided but I think that's because I haven't smoothed out anything in there, top or bottom.
-The character is supposed to have a long, streamlined look.

. For the sake of simplicity, I'm nixing the wings out of his design on the suit.

Also, where can I find decent wigs and does anyone know where I can perhaps find tutorials about incorporating wigs into fursuits?

resin and coloring

ive been looking for a resin i can cast colored claws out of and have them a solid, not semi-transparent. I used 325 before and they would be semi-transparent, and if i pigment 300, the colors come out pastel because the resin is pre-tinted white, i was looking at 320 but its off-white, so wouldnt i run into a pastel color instead of the true color again? i contacted smooth-on by email because they closed when i had the chance to call, but i really need an answer soon bc i have an order for blue claws, and i could use 325 again but ive been wanting to find a opaque resin instead.

good fur for fursuits?

i completed my first fursuit  in time for furry fiesta in February if this year, and It's already falling apart. I've had several rips, i took it to the part last night, and the back split just going down a slide. :P

the fur is a snow leopard print fur, and white craft fur. (do not buy! No Good for fursuits!).
I've learned print fur and craft fur are No Good for fursuits. they back have thin backing, and You can see colored foam through .

what type of fur is recommended for fulsuits? what won't rip, be seen through, and will last more than three months?

ears

So, I got some scrap fur lying around, a meetup coming this weekend, and a day off....what does that mean? I guess I feel like making some ears. My thing is this (and I may have even mentioned this/asked before) but I'm not a big fan of the headbands (especially the hard plastic ones) and I was just wondering what things you guys use aside from those? I've sewn ears onto hats before but I don't have any spare hats handy, trying to work with what I got. I was considering sewing them onto a piece of elastic...like a floppy headband or something? Think that might work? My concern is hiding the elastic band after I've sewn my ears on.

Also, just going for puppy-like ears I think (unless I'm suddenly inspired to do something else but I doubt it hah) would you guys recommend any foam/and or inserts or do you think sewing the pieces of fur together is enough for ears? I always feel like I should be doing more, but not sure if the foam is more for suit heads or what.

Oh! An Otter!

I haven't posted here in some time and thought I would show off a recent project!

I had this older foam head base sitting around and decided to spruce it up and see what would come of it!  I also tried some new things on this suit like a different style of 2D eyes and some detailed paws; it was also a exercise in building an otter that was recognizable as an otter but also fun and toony!

I remember reading some horror stories of handmade sled dog harnesses and dog collars leeching their dye onto a fursuit, staining it forever.

I'm working on a project that involves making a nylon dog collar, I was wondering what you guys recommended I do to treat the nylon to make 100% sure the dye is set and won't "bleed" onto the fur around it.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

New head in progress

Hello, I'm not really new here. I've been lurking the journal here for a few months but decided to make an account and get some feedback/critique. Technically this will be my second head even though I never finished my first one. Took a lot of time going over tutorials and such and I feel that I've learned much more since starting my first fursuit head. I even decided to keep the eyes I had originally made for the first one as well.

So far it's just a base with a short muzzle and eyes. I had planned to make the whole head out of foam, but I'm not really sure how well painted foam horns may look. As well as the risk of chipping and color bleeding. Are there any other materials that make durable and light weight horns? I already decided her hair will be a long pile NFT fur and a possible mix of yarn.

Character Info: An ill-tempered, hot headed minotaur girl (femmetaur???) named Triel "Trigger" Happy that has an affinity for guns and grenades. She has a reckless trigger finger that tends to slip when things aren't going her way. Triel also doesn't like when anyone touches or pulls on her nose ring the intial reaction embarrasses her.

Ear sizing opinions!

I finally got my lovely unfinished partial that was original made by One Eyed Doe (not purchased from them, though), and I'm already trying to get some work done! I'm looking to make a Cardigan Welsh Corgi out of this girl, and I'm looking for input on her lovely ears! Under the cut I've put in a front, side, and 3/4 view of the head on a mannequin with the ear templates I sized out. If the bottoms look strange, it's because I'm putting gauges in her ears :)

Also, as the head is a resin base, I have no idea how to really go about attaching the ears.. do I glue them to the head? Do I sew them into the hood of the mask? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!!

Also- Necomimi ears. How can I possibly alter the bases so that I can make ears big enough to put onto my headset, or do I just make ears of my own and create a "pouch" on the bottom? Anybody have any experience?

Thanks!!

There's no way to remove color from tinted plastic, right? I did a little bit of looking around the internet and didn't find anything relevant.

Do you think that stuffed fleece paw pads on the shoe bottoms would make it hard to walk on or cause uneven steps? Was planning on making pretty big paw pads that would kind of cover most of the bottom of the foot.

well after about a million tries I have come up with somewhat of a bunny shape, (I hope).
I was looking for some crits or redlines maybe. Also, how do you make stuffed puffy hand paw fingers? Like Duke's or a picture here
foamwork pics are in the COMMENTS. Thank you for any help in advance! :)

Female/Pretties Accent Accessories

I want to thank all of those who helped me figure out how to feminize a suit, especially since it's borderline complete realism and usually, animals have no feature that depicts male from female, besides colors and size.

I was looking for ways to depict Tusken, my werewolf WIP, as a female when in public. Too many times, my suits have been mistaken for male. Its the first thing people think of. Its...weird! Anywho, I found these! They go on your dog or your cat and they're basically like human hair extensions, except for the dog. They latch into the fur. Perfect for a fursuit!

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0081F2M1Q/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER

I plan to do these, I think, for Tusken, and Even SnowBunny. Just finished an event today with her and not once was I called a girl, not that I recall, lol.

These seem great for those that draw their fursuit character with some type of feathers or accents in their hair. Look guys, you can make it the real deal with draping feathers! If anybody finds these in a less expensive offer, let me know! I'm going to save for them, after I get Tusken finished.

Just posting an update and getting any kind of critique I can get along the way.

For the moment the horns and nose are placeholders. I also installed a pretty sensitive articulated moving jaw.

Gray Fox, Reworked

I ended up changing around this costume a little after receiving some feedback, now I like it much better!

Before, it had glass taxidermy eyes. I painted them myself and they came out kind of messy looking, and the eyes weren't quite focused. I also picked a troublesome shape, slit pupil. It was just a mess and while I could have just reworked the existing eyes, I figured it would look better to just make completely new eyes and try again with the taxidermy eyes on another project. Another added benefit of replacing the eyes is that the vision is better, since before the glass eyes obstructed the wearer's view. :)

I also added whiskers made of horsehair (thanks Crystumes!!!!) I haven't done whiskers in a long time, I definitely had my reservations about them, but now I like them. I threaded some of them through the mask with a carpet needle, but that was a rather irritating process with a low success rate, so I eventually switched to parting the fur and putting the tiniest dab of glue against the backing and pressing the whiskers in.

Closeup of an ear, because they're floofy and cute. Someone pointed out the ears go out to the sides a bit much, but there's nothing that can be done about that now. I don't think it's horribly distracting, personally. Maybe the fox is just feeling a little submissive.

Pics of the partial, all together.

And here's a video showing the various parts: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BgcAX2a_A9Y&feature=youtu.be

It is for auction right now, ends Sunday: http://www.thedealersden.com/auction_details.php?name=gray-fox-partial-by-lobitaworks&auction_id=113313

Current info on Myvu/Personal displays for costume use?

Hey guys! so I am looking around at heads-up visors/viewers and cameras for use in costumes and I did find an old thread about this in the memories section but the info is touch out-of date. Does anyone know anything about current models of visor-viewers and their compatability with mini cams? (and current specs on mini cams themselves)

Upcoming personal project calls for it and I would like to try and do this right the first time. Would really like smooth moving, well-contrasted picture with not-too-terrible picture noise.

Thanks!

Can anyone help identify this fur color?
