I wonder if you guys came across of orange three inch or sparkle fur from DF?

Also, is there other websites that also sells DF furs?

Digitigrade Legs / Padding question

I'm making a few suits that have some form of hip / leg padding. I've read the few tutorials on site but I want to make sure I have the right idea before I make any progress.

This is a picture of the basic idea I have behind making the pattern:

So is this somewhat simple pattern what I want to be aiming for? And what would be the best way to pad it out? I was thinking about making "pillows" out of polyfil instead of foam.

My goal is to be able to do padding like this suit: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9519956/ (or the big pink hyena Java Costumes / Wild-Life made).

here the suit i made with the new video game

Ordering Digilegs (formerly WETA Legs)

Hopefully saving other folks a little annoyance, here’s how to get an order through the www.digilegs.com site:

1) Use Internet Explorer® on a Windows® PC. The ordering system DOES NOT WORK with other browsers or operating systems. (Wow, just like the 1990s!)

2) You’ll need a PayPal™ account for payment/credit card processing.

3) When registering for an account on digilegs.com (a required step when placing an order), be sure to use the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS that you use for PayPal™, or there will be…trouble.

4) If you email them or use the contact form and never get a response, check your spam folder. For some reason everything they sent me got flagged!

5) If all else fails, you can phone them and they’ll issue a PayPal™ invoice. This is what I ultimately had to do. If unfamiliar with international calling, the complete number from the US is: 011441827873053. The good news is that there’s real people on the other end of the line and they’re all awesome and pleasant to deal with. If calling from the States, keep in mind they’re on Greenwich time (i.e. early morning here is end-of-day there).

Update: total cost w/shipping to US is £710.40 GBP. The exact dollar amount will vary depending on current exchange rates. For an estimate, enter “710.40 gbp to usd” in Google, keeping in mind that this will change slightly from day to day, so don’t be alarmed if your invoice doesn’t exactly match this estimate. UK buyers will pay less for shipping but will also have to pay VAT…regardless, the total will be different in that case.

Whew! Alrighty then, let’s see some MONSTERS happen! RAR!

The most colorful duct tape dummy! (Cheapest way to stuff?)

My parents bought me some colorful duct tape for Christmas. Originally they intended me to use them for my heads, but I didn't want to waste such beautiful duct tape on one-use patterns! So I made a dummy.

I do have to ask though, what's the cheapest, easiest way to stuff a dummy? Thanks a lot guys!

Help with Fur and Fleece?

Does anyone have examples of DF black sparkle fur, DF 2" pile gray and purple on a suit?

Also. Fleece. A lot of people tell me it's a no-no for suits..but..urk.

I wanted to make my ear insides out of fleece. They're going to be paneled (I saw a cat fursuit head..it was green with the same concept if you know what I'm talking abut, haha) so I figured it'd be fairly easy. ^^

Same with the inside of my mouth.

Those are pretty low-contact areas.

Paw pads, on the other hand, get a lot of use. If this is a toony suit, should I pick something different?..I don't wanna use silicone 'cause I feel that'd make it too realistic. But they're so squishy ;-; I love them haha.

The pouch. My fursona is a kangaroo named Talzyr (Tal-zeer) and Talzyr is genderless, but I like pouches. XD I don't wanna make it outta the same fur as the body, so I was thinking of making it outta fleece. Then I could like..roll the top, stuff it, and make it squishy too. c: Or would that be bad because it'd pill up something awful, I imagine.

If I can use fleece, what's the best kind to use? Anti-pill? Blizzard?

No, bad hinges!

Hello all! I've recently purchased some resin blanks and started to deck them out... But I've run into a problem- hinges. I don't want to go buy $8 hinges and then go through the trouble of installing them in all, unless if it is a must.

Has anybody attached their jaws to the resin top using elastic, wire, etc.? I'm looking for a cool, creative way to do so. :3 Thanks!

More fur questions, forgive me.

So I think I may have found a fur that matches what I'm looking for. Teddy Bear Mocha

Only It's on Shannon Fabrics, and you can't purchase directly from their site unless you have a business license?

My question is, does anyone know a place I can get a hold of that fur, or a swatch to see if it's actually the color I need, in person?

*EDIT*

Better yet, can anyone help me identify what fur was used for the brown on this suit?

I think I've finally settled on the CR koala. Thank you all!

I don't know if I'm doing this right...this is my second livejournal post ever o.o

But anywho, this is my very first fursuit ever! She is an unnamed (for now) toony female canine mutt!

DSC_0262

The head is all 1/2" and 1" high density foam. I used Matrices foam head base tutorial for the very base, then I just eyeballed it from there with a few references.

The nose is made out of good ol Sculpey! I intend on making the teeth and stuff out of it too.

The deal with the elastic on the mouth: So this was originally intended to be a moving jaw. I found somewhere that you could bend wire into a jaw shape and somehow make a moving jaw with elastic or rubberbands or something. I tried. I failed. The wire is still in there because it's pretty sturdy and keeps the lower jaw on the head. The elastic was there to hold up the lower jaw, but...I really don't know. Haha this is why I need critiques!

So yeah...I gave up on the moving jaw. It looks fine static, so I'm okay with it.

Please don't mind my messy room.

A problem I've been having other than my jaw not moving properly is that my head is very front-heavy. It tends to fall forward a little bit. How can I secure it better to my face while not making it too hard to get in and out of?

Other than my main problems, does it look nice? Is there anything that I should change before furring? I think she looks decent for my first head, other than the muzzle maybe being a little bit too big. Any input would be great! :D

Random details: I intend her to be a full suit, light brown and white. I already made the feet! (They're so fun to walk in!) :D

I love you all and thanks so much for reading!! Y'all are great ^ᴗ^

Ps- if you have any cute name ideas, please tell me!

Of the paper clay furred kig build head. I really like the way she drapes her patterns and how she shows the padding.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9787706/

Flip through her photos as she is uploading it page by page (around 14 pages). I'm sure this took a lot of work to upload and I'm grateful and surprised that she did. If you found this tutorial helpful make sure to thank her :3

paperhorse

Got the head part of my horse quad suit mapped out with construction paper templates. I had help on this. it was definitely a two person job. I would like to know what you guys think of the construction phase so far? Also can anyone find a source about how to make the arm stilts step by step and what materials they used and explanation for everything? cause i cant really find anything. Another thing i need to figure out is the mane of my horse. The main us like a soft standing mohawk like a zebra mane. how do i make hair like that without using real horse hair and not getting pricey?

attaching hinges and springs to resin moving jaw

i ordered a fox resin blank and hinges from dreamvision creations and i am currently looking into ways to attach the hinges and springs to load the movement

i decided to use the L hinges as to minimize any need to drill into the resin (cause im terrified of cracking it) i read somewhere that a 2 part epoxy glue would attach them just fine

but my main concern is attaching the springs as i cant really envision a way to attach them without drilling

i know some people use elastic instead but i think elastic would wear out far faster and wouldnt have as sensitive movement as a metal spring

does anyone have experience drilling resin? or more specifically drilling into mask made by DVC

About to make an order from USAKnit, anyone have a coupon code?

Figured I'd ask, since I'm dropping a significant amount of money and any break helps!

Also, they appear to have white fox back in stock.

Off white?

Hi!

I was searching around fabricempire.com [I ordered black faux fur from them for my suit. Almost done with it]
and I came across their ivory. http://www.fabricempire.com/faux-fur-shaggy-ivory.aspx It looks like off wite to me but I haven't ordered a swatch.

Just putting this out there because I know off white is hard to find. :)

Sockpuppet built "fursuit" style - pricing help??

$

Hello everyone!

I've been asked to make realistic sock puppets for a group, and was hoping I could get some input on pricing. They would likely be built off a sock (obviously lol) with carved foam, covered in fur, then trimmed/airbrushed. I'm interested in the project, but am sort of at a loss for pricing. I price fursuits by the hour based on how much time I think it'll take, but I've never made a detailed sock puppet before. :'D

I want to make sure I get a good amount per hour because this would be part of my business and I need to eat and pay bills. ;) I guess what I'm asking is - what is the highest price you'd pay for a realistic sock puppet before it starts to sound ridiculous or overpriced? Material cost will be low, but I have a feeling it'd be time consuming.

First time fursuit: Espeon---Suggestions, where to begin?

$

Hello everybody!

I am a crafts(wo)man who is fairly new to building fursuits. I have made tails and ears before, but full characters are still new grounds for me. However, this April my friends and I are going to an Anime convention, and I wanted to make something super cool for my first con. Thus hatched the idea of an Espeon (Pokemon in my avatar) Fursuit.

I am planning on starting with the head and hands first just in case I run out of time, but other than that I don't really know where to start. I kind of wanted to make a toony suit, but more like a giant stuffed animal/'Plushie'. This is the closest reference picture I could find of what I mean.

I also really like the mouth on this fursuit, but was wondering if it was possible to do on a non-rigid mask (upholstery foam)

I will also probably have to use fleece (hence why I opted for toon-style) because all of my extra funds are going towards the trip.

I have been reading and researching as much as I can, but still feel kind of lost. I can't get any ideas down on paper, let alone any ideas. Any help or suggestions to help me get on the right track?

Thank you all in advance for your time and help,
-Plush :3
