Aqua Blue Luxury Shag Faux Fur (SAMPLE NEEDED)

Does anyone have specifically "Aqua Blue Luxury Shag Faux Fur"? (this exact color http://fursuitsupplies.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=355 )?

Not Turquoise and not baby blue.

Desperately need a small sample so I know if its worth the wait on a customer's order. Seems I have the worst luck with out of stock/back order with every project that turns up in my hands, thanks. Would be VERY greatful to see the difference from the turquoise.

Note: I only need half a yard of this for my project. I'm doubtful anyone has any of this fur, if I like the color i'd for sure throw money at whoever has half of a yard if I like the color.

Ideal cleaning spray

Hi again!

You would think that after 6 years of building fursuits I would know what cleaner to use... But I don't. I'm clueless. I've been brushing my bodysuit (which has only been used once) or parts, and airing out my head but I'll be attending a lot of cons and public events so I need something reliable.
I'm aware febreeze is a huge no-no. But I did find this (via http://fursuit.livejournal.com/5324500.html)

Has anyone used this or would recommend it? I'd like to use it on my bodysuit, paws, feet and head. Thanks!

Looking for a color

Hey all, I'm looking for a color most similar to the pinkish/ivory/beige on this design:

The pile length needs to be close to that of luxury shag fur. If anyone can point me towards a very similar fur, please do!
Thanks in advance!

Questions about spray glue

I've been trying out 3M 90 spray glue as an alternative to hot glue since I'm terrified of hot things and people seem to say it's better for softness/flexibility. I have a few things I'm not sure on, though.

- How long do I have to wait for the glue to dry before being able to cut through it? I don't want to get wet glue on my scissors, but it's often necessary to cut through two layers of foam while carving.

-Related to the above question, how do you even make a head with spray glue in a reasonable amount of time? I tend to go in and constantly add little pieces to fix symmetry but it seems like it would take forever to make even one headbase with spray glue with how it seems to take hours to dry from my experimenting :/

-How do you fur a head with this stuff? I've heard of people using it for that, but I can't see how that would work with how messy/large the spray is. Or maybe I'm just doing something wrong.

-About how long does a can last in fursuit terms (how much stuff can you glue with it)? I'm mostly just curious about this one.

-Is there anything that will damage the cured glue/bond that I should know about?

Making Sock Paws Comfy?

Hey guys, I'm looking for some advice/opinions on sock paws.

I'm making my first ever fursuit and would love to have the realistic look of sock paws, plus walking "barefoot" is much less strenuous on my feet (I have weird feet that start to hurt easily if I'm in shoes for too long). I attempted making one pair using some crap fur I had laying around, and they turned out...bad. It was mostly an issue with me having no clue what I was doing, and being really bad at making/using duct tape dummies (they didn't fit my feet at all when I put them on, despite using a DTD of my feet).

I can improve that through practice. But what I'm really worried about is the comfort. When I put them on, I was instantly uncomfortable. I could feel every little line of hot glue I had used on the bottom of the sock. I didn't sew anything together, just kind of slapped it on with glue. In hindsight this was probably a bad idea.

So my questions are: is there any way to avoid stepping on lines of hot glue? Should I sew the fur directly to the sock? If so, how do I make sure it doesn't come apart when I'm wearing them? Are there other options? Should I just forget the sock paws and use an old pair of shoes? Are sock paws really worth the hassle? I'm only using a single color for the paws and I planned on using DVC's silicone feetpads for the pads. I might use the thick ones if I can afford it, I dunno.

And I'm not willing to buy a pair of sock paws, since the lowest price I've been able to find was about $200, when I can make them myself for maybe $30, or less. (If you know of anyone who sells them for less than $100, let me know please!)

I have 2 colors of fur fabric and want to see how I can make them gradually fade into each other in a gradient. Are there any tutorials on this?

I love critique. Though for these I already know about the folds in the fabric and size differences, so anything else would be fantastic :) I do know charizard's hidden zipper doesn't look as hidden as i'd like to make them and the belly isnt' straight at the very top. I followed matrices tutorial on the hidden zipper, and it hides great with faux fur but beaver fur is another story lol. Maybe just some practice on that? :)
These were made in 2014 and eyes were fixed up in 2015 as well as bolt having new its new paws/tail made.

In great need of samples listed... + Holy cow, turquoise/cobalt fur renamed????

Hi there, I am going through a hard time finding these samples, i'd pay $1.50 for each of these. The reasons for why I need them and am having a hard time is listed for each. Websites that sell this fur as good sized samples will help greatly or any physical samples....

Grey: I need a short pile light grey color that's 1" or less preferably.

Teddy Bear Gray Frost: http://www.crscraft.com/products/product.asp?pid=90042&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fabrics&class=&searchOffset=x (requires $5.50 shipping and sends the samples in such tiny little fragment pieces :( will still order if absolutely necessary )

Grey Realistic Shag: http://fursuitsupplies.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=67&product_id=370 (No sample of this color offered via link)
Aqua Blue Luxury Shag: (Backordered, would love to have this asap at all costs)

Rust: As for rust color, i'll take any suggestions for anything about 1" pile length and quite orangey/light rust orange color rather than dark/red hue color.

http://www.thunderlily.com/fabrics/novelty/polyester/2341-rust-polyester-faux-fur.html(I dont think I can get this as a sample on their website, a customer wanted me to check it out regardless of the poor quality the photos appear)
Frosted Black Pumpkin: http://www.distinctivefabric.com/long-pile-fur/metroplitanfur.html (edit: I think I can get this one on thefabricexchange as a sample)
Cubby Bear Red Fox: http://www.crscraft.com/products/product.asp?pid=91501&L1=2&L2=13&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&search=1requires $5.50 shipping and sends the samples in such tiny little fragment pieces :( will still order if absolutely necessary

=) I appreciate it!

EDIT: HOLY COW, did TheFabricExchange suddenly rename furs and got new stock and threw out some of the other blue color shag furs??? Can someone un-confuse me?

http://thefabricexchange.com/luxury-shag-60-inch-faux-fur-cobalt-blue/ : Is this a new fur? And cobalt fur was much more darker I believe.... And is this the original Cobalt or is this something else? @_@   http://thefabricexchange.com/luxury-shag-60-inch-faux-fur-blue/

http://thefabricexchange.com/luxury-shag-60-inch-faux-fur-turquoise/ : Isn't this "Aqua shag" and not Turquoise? And Turquoise looks like its not there anymore at all :O?

Chemical smell in fursuit head

Hey all. Instead of asking about a head I'm making, I'm asking for a friend's head this time.

My friend bought a premade fursuit head. Resin cast, airbrushed, silicone tongue and nose, taxidermy style teeth, and resin eyes. She told me of a weird "chemical" smell that she doesn't quite know how to describe that she can't figure out how to remove from the head. She doesn't know what the smell is from and she's afraid to wear it for too long in case it's harmful.

Any methods to remove the smell? Or at least what the smell could be from.

Mega CharIzard X Cosplay

Hi everyone! So i decided to take a different approach to my Mega Charizard X cosplay. I'm sculpting the shape and then making a pattern for foam from the sculpt. How does the sculpt look so far? I feel like the leg looks a little goofy. Once the shape has been finalized, it will get smoothed over. Please ignore the arm. :) Thanks for any help!

First Fursuit, Huzzah!

Hi there everyone! A wild Sherrehcat has decided to make herself known in this community. Woot!

So, over the past week or so I've been stalking the posts in this journal, looking for information on fursuiting. I've been eager to start one and I knew I needed to understand the basics of the craft. I've found that there are quite a few different methods and tricks that people use, like for foaming, or the eyes, or claws, and so on. I'm fairly confident in the knowledge I have gained from all the tutorials I've watched and I'm about to take the first steps and start foaming a head. Yaaas!

I'm going to be doing a balaclava style with moving jaw (the first timer is ambitious) which I already have. I will be getting that set up tomorrow after work. I have foam ready just have to get it all worked out =D

I have a few questions that I'd like to pose to my fellow furs. First off, here is the reference picture I will be using for this project:

(lineart by Zhivago and can be found here >> www.radpandas.com/RefSheet <<)

With the help of this wonderful person's lineart, I have successfully created Sherrehcat(me!) in the form of a Fennec Cat-Squirrel Dragon(Please disregard the missing black on the back view ears x]). Haha, lots of interesting stories for that.

So, first question refers to the DTD that I will be making. This question is more out of curiosity than anything, but it's better to prepare than to not be prepared. So I'm a more well endowed woman in the chest region and I was curious if that would be noticeable in a DTD to the point that I won't need to make the feminine padding later?

Alright, moving onto the more complicated questions. I think you'll notice that there are a few scale patches on the body. What kind of fabric should I use for this? I kind of want it to be textured more like scales rather than soft like fur. Any suggestions?

Next, I was curious about the horns. I've made some horns out of model magic and tinfoil but the feel of those is kind of lacking in my opinion. I've seen people suggesting things like sculpey or other clays of the like. Would that be a good option for these kinds of horns and how much would I need to make sure I have enough? Does acrylic paint work better on this kind of clay once it has been baked? If not, what does?

An additional question about the horns, when should they be attached to the head? Before or after furring?

That's really all the questions I have. I'm super excited to get started =D

best fur for house cat feet?

Self-explanatory. I would like opinions on what the 'best', most realistic-looking/feeling fur is for cat feet, in your experience(s). The most important factor, for me, is pile length, followed by texture/smoothness. For reference, the character I'm currently working on is a long-haired house cat, but I don't want the feet to be super puffy... also, since I'm [probably] just going to brush some Createx on this for coloring, white/pale fur would be preferable! Thanks in advance c:

AND, for curious folks, here's a video of the paws in action [as you can see, I'm not totally done foaming yet...]:

Confused about different types of fur and how to make.

So, I've been browsing around and seen fur that was used on both the head and body, while that is an okay route to go I don't like the look of the long fur and baggy type shape it gives with it on the body. I'd prefer my head just to be furry. I am looking to go with shorter type fur that also fits to my body.

Fabric.com Hecking Up Fur Orders

Howdy! I haven't posted here in a month of Sundays, I tell you what.

So I know other builders have had a problem with this, but I wanna know just how mnay have. I have had three separate incidents of ordering fur from Fabric.com, having it arrived balled up and having the fur wrinkled up beyond use. Customer service resolved the issue both times, but I really don't have time for this kind of crap. Who else has had this problem?

When I return this fur (it's DF shag) and get my refund I'm going to buy it from somewhere else, I'm tired of having my fur come crinkled. Yeah, their shipping is free but it ain't worth this hassle to me. I'll buy other fabrics from Fabric.com, but not fur.

Patterning Satyr legs?

So I've seen many tutorials on how to pattern Satyr legs using duct tape, but my question is how much seam allowance is needed? I have a pair of leggings, with foam already glued on to get the right shape, but now I need to add the fur. So I need to know how much seam allowance is necessary. If it helps, I'm using DF "luxury shag", Thanks in advance :3

Fur Color Help

Yep, it's a "does this fur color or its cousin even exist?" type of deal. 8D!!!

I received my first commission awhile ago on a premade base, and my commissioner chose the most awesome colors. However, I'm having no luck finding a good quality equivalent of the color on the muzzle. Note that she wants everything to be naturally short-pile if possible:

I thought we'd found a close exception in FursuitSupplies' navy blue mink, as it actually has a greenish tint to it, but it's out of stock. So, if anyone knows where I can get a short to medium pile teal-y blue fur, I'll be forever grateful. If not, I've resigned myself to shaving down a bunch of navy luxury shag fur. x.x

Greetings!

Alternate sources for this fur?

I'm on the hunt for an alternate source of this fur. It's the flokati manufactured by Sommer's Plastics. I'm mainly searching for the black but the white would also be rad. I have a swatch and this stuff is /awesome/, it's SUPER soft and SUPER long but also has guard hairs interspersed. It's like a perfect hybrid of DF shag and Arctic Fox. It's really flat and 'stringy' without being gross, which is completely perfect for the character I'm making and I'd really love to get my hands on it.

They sell it on their site but- problem is I'm sort on a pretty tight budget at the moment and I only need like less than a half yard of the stuff, and their minimum order is 1 yard. And their shipping is kind of crazy expensive so that's kind of out of the question for now. I've been looking around a lot but I haven't been able to locate it anywhere else. :/ I know fursuitsupplies has something called 'flokati' but it says it's manufactured by Shannon Fabrics and the description doesn't seem right for it either.

If anyone's come across anything similar I'd greatly appreciate a nudge in the right direction. I really want to get this guy done before halloween and I'd rather not just settle for DF shag when I could use this stuff.

Realistic fursuits

Hey again! Coming back with another question. I'd like to begin making a realistic fursuit head. So I'd like some form of tutorial, I've looked all over the place but could not find somethign that could help. Since it's halloween I've found a lot of materials, foam and liquid latex, other things so I'd like to use this to my advantage

Could anyone teach me ( step by step ) how to mold or do something with the head? I assume you mold it then do somehting with latex?
