I need to make some new leg sleeves for my partial, which is made of this fur. The quality of the stuff was fine when I bought some a year ago to first make it, and again in January when I bought some more for another suit, but I've heard that the quality has really fallen this year. Is this true? If it's not a good fur anymore, are there any alternatives that dye/shave well and have a similar texture?

Printing Eyes on Buckram
Okay, I'm new to lj, but I've stalked here silently for many months now, and I've been extremely curious about printing buckram with an inkjet printer. I haven't seen very specific answers(or very many at all) so I tried it! (PS I have no idea how to cut so I hope it works!)
I have a HP Inkjet printer. Not sure what model, but it worked fine for this.
First, I created what I wanted my eyes to look like in Paint Tool SAI, but any program should work fine. This is a picture of the eye designs for reference later on.
Then, I booted up MS Paint to resize the eyes to fit on my buckram with accurate sizes(this can be easily done by messing around with the canvas size and print settings)
Then, I placed a piece of buckram into my printer, cut to fit 8 by 10(the buckram was fursuitsupplies.com's loosely woven) and printed under "other specialty papers".
At first, the printer wouldn't take it(buckram went through with no print) but I found out that as the printer starts looking for paper to take, I had to gently force in it. The results came out very clear! Then I flipped the paper around and printed the other side black to conserve time and, voila!
There it is! It came out very clear in case you can't tell by the picture.
Here's a bonus pic of them installed into the foam work of a suit I'm making!

Dealing with black sclera and buckram
So my character has black sclera and I'm wondering if painting the buckram black will affect how it looks since most fursuits have white eyes. I saw black buckram on ebay but then the issue comes along with painting the iris and such. Should I look into black plastic for the sclera or will it look fine just painting the buckram black. I would test this myself but I live nowhere close to a buckram source and I dont want to wait for an online shipment of it. Thanks in advance.

Hii (first time posting, long time lurking)
I've been working on my first fursuit head (toony canine) and was just wondering if I could run it by you guys, see if you notice any mistakes I may have missed or any suggestions
The eyes so far are just pinned in, not currently attached. I need to do some more work with the ears (fur adds more to them than I thought it would e_e )
Color scheme is Black, Silver and blue (I only had a pink sharpie on hand for telling markings apart XD )
Also not 100% satisfied with the markings, I probably will take the shade below the eyes away
Thank you!

Fleece fursuits?
Hey guys, I wanted to finally get around to making my fursona, since she was a bit complicated to start with.
She's a reptile, so I was thinking I'd make her with fleece, though I have a few questions:
So this is her, Twinx. I'd probably only be doing a partial for now, since I don't quite have the supply for a fullsuit.
So here are my questions:
1. Have any good examples of fleece fursuits, both partial and full? I've been having a hard time finding fleece fullsuits, and the ones I have found are primarily loose and baggy in appearence.
2. Best way to keep fleece clean? I know you can't submerge the foamy-bits, so what's the best way to keep it clean if it's looking a little dusty?
3. Is it better to machine sew or hand sew fleece? I know how to do the henson stitch, but the only fleece head I made used that stitch and it ended up being too tight and restricted the jaw from moving.
4. Is there a way to drybrush fleece without it feeling crusty? I painted stripes on some fleece arms (antipil fleece with acryllic paint), and tried to keep it combed and airy through drying without smudging it, but it dried hard and crusty-feeling. Can I avoid this?
5. Would it look goofy if I made the teeth and claws out of fleece as well?
All help is much appreciated!

Fur color clarification?
I feel like this has been discussed before, but I checked the memories and can't find it. I'm looking for the color used on this head:
Is this fabric.com's Camel, or Caramel? I can never tell the difference on the site, and it's been so long since I've ordered it that I can't remember which is which.
Or is it something else, maybe? It looks a bit darker than the scraps of it (whatever it is...) that I currently have.

Expanding urethane foam heads questions
I'd like to make a head out of Expanding urethane foam, but I was wondering how do you make it hollow? All the heads I've seen were pretty much solid; thereby making, say, a moving jaw or installing fans, a difficult task of hacking out a hole to put the stuff in. I dont know about you, but I do casting specifically to avoid having to cut foam like in most foam heads.

General tips for working with the below design are appreciated (only the head tho, I won't be making a full suit of it), but specifically I need help with ways to make the neck nice and fluffy/poofy on this sheep!
Any help is appreciated, thank you!

I'm looking for a kind of fox fur to use
I'm making a fox character pretty soon and I've been looking for a good fur to use. Ideally I'm looking for something pretty short (around 1") that's a nice brown shade, that will hold up well on a fursuit. What furs would be a good idea to choose from?

Staining Resin Blanks (DVC Skull Blank)
I don't know if anyone has asked this yet but HOW does one stain a resin blank. Specifically the DVC Canine Skull resin blank. I'm considering making a skull creature of my own as a partial for Megaplex but am not sure how hard it would be to stain it as they don't come that way.

Fursuit Head Foam base WIP, Critique wanted!
So I havn't made a fursuit in many years, and I thought I'd try my hand at it again, so I started on my character Brody who's a wolf dog hybrid.
The eyes are temporary.
I'm still not sure how I'm going to do the nose or the corners and inside of the mouth. I want the mouth to be closed, with a neutral/bored expression but I wanted to leave a gap for air flow to get to my face since it's full foam. Not sure if I should put something in there just in case someone sneaks a peek, or just make some slips and secure it closed in some way. Or just convert it into a moving jaw?
I've also been thinking of adding holes to some of the flatter areas and covering them with mesh before I fur it, to make vents for air and heat to get in and out. Has anyone else done this? Did it work?

Heavy mask!! Weight distribution advice?
Greetings, my fur friends!
I'm currently making an elk suit with an ENORMOUS pair of antlers, which I fear will add a lot of weight to an otherwise lightweight mask. Before I tackle mounting these suckers, I just wondered if any of you had any experience with heavy masks and how to manage them.
My last suit had a mask that was about 3.5 pounds, which doesn't sound too bad until you realize that my neck is carrying 135% of my head weight every time I wear it. Ouch! I don't want another mask that will make my neck and shoulders ache so badly after only an hour or two of suiting.
Are there any harnesses I should know about? Shoulder pads? Fancy neck ruffles? I haven't the slightest clue what kind of object would help hold up extra head weight. Suggestions would be much appreciated!

Resin Eye Resource
I was browsing on Etsy and found a shop selling pdf downloads of various eyes, which you can print out and glue to a cabochon or resin/acrylic eyes. I thought they might work well for fursuits, and they are on sale right now:
Animal Eyes in various sizes, mostly reptile:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/194235476/75-off-sale-12-mm-20mm-30-mm-1-inch?ref=shop_home_active_1
More animal eyes, some more cartoony and/or mammalian:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/187478199/75-off-sale-animal-eyes-digital-eyes-30?ref=shop_home_active_14
There are more in the shop, but I'm not going to post them all. Just go to the shop page and select the "circles" category.
Edit: If you buy some, I'd recommend buying the largest size available. You can scale images down in most photo editors without losing quality, but if you try to make an image larger it will lose some quality.
Also, found some more from a different shop: https:

Gloss Finish (for Silicone)
I feel lucky in asking today, i've been searching around for a while to find some type of 'gloss' finish to use on top of Dragonskin.
If you seen my previous posts to get glossy silicone paw pads, I have read online they used a type of gloss finish on the top layer as mentioned on their product (for paw pads).
Yes I know with the perfect mold you can get a glossy finish (I am currently ordering shell shock to get my molds looking more shiny and smooth), i'm way too curious and feeling very very experimental with my silicone projects- I need to find out - I want to know if there is such a thing out there. Because I have a feeling it may be since it was mentioned by some paw pad makers. >:/ And yes I am quite determined to find this.... Since i've asked the makers who mentioned this without luck in getting replies at all.
I have found this.... Smooth-On.com's: NOVOCS™ GLOSS Silicone Solvent
However... You need to mix this with paint, according to the website. Thus the result doesn't appear translucent which is what i'm trying to achieve. I wonder if mixing only a tiny amount of paint to it will still work out or if there is something really out there i'm not noticing.
Thank you very very much for all of your help, as always, I am quite amused by learning more with this topic.

faux furs "in action"
Hello again! I'm back with more difficult questions, haha. This is more directed at UK-based fursuit makers, but anyone who buys furs from Mohair Bear Making Supplies or Swincraft2 may be able to help:
I'm looking at buying fur for a personal suit. My options for the main body color are Mohair's beige mink (which I think is the same as Swincraft2's swiss beige) or Swincraft2's solid beige (which I think is the same as Mohair's warm beige). For a matching lighter-colored accent fur to go with the beige mink/swiss beige, I was thinking Swincraft2's swiss cream, or to go with the solid beige/warm beige, I was thinking Mohair's champagne. (I'm sorry for all of these "beige"s; I wish they had more easily distinguishable names, but alas.)
My timeframe for making this suit has suddenly shrunk from a few months to less than one, so I don't have time to order and receive more samples (I have the beige mink and the solid beige), so, my question is: does anyone know of any suits or suit parts that make use of any of these furs? Seeing them "in action" is really helpful for me in choosing what furs to use, especially given Swincraft2's generally poor photo quality and the weirdly dark photos on Mohair's champagne listing, but I'm not nearly as adept at picking these furs out of a crowd as I am luxury shags, teddy/cubby furs from CR's, etc. Also, anyone that has worked with the mink/swiss furs before-- is the backing okay to use? It seems a little sparse and tearable to me, but the same can be said for CR's cubby furs, so I just wanted to confirm whether they're considered usable for fursuits.
Thanks in advance!!

Realistic Foam Head Bases?
Hey there guys, I have a question:
Has anyone done a semi/realistic fursuit head out of foam? The ones I've seen have always been out of resin.
I'm wanting to make a head of my werewolf character and try my hand at a more realistic style than my current style which you can see below:
The style I'd like to achieve ideally would be this level of realism or every so slightly toonier. I realise the limits of foam.
If it is the case that people have achieved a realistic look with foam does anyone have any images or any advice for better carving? Thanks :)

Comparing Red Fox Fur
I ordered a swatch from Mendel's of their Cubby Red Fox Fur, but after looking in the archives to see if anyone has used it before, a lot of people spoke positively of CR's Cubby Red Fox fur. Are these two products the same? From the pictures I've seen they look very similar.
Another thing I was concerned about is if anyone has used Cubby Fur extensively on a bodysuit and how well it holds up. I've used a different varient before and I didn't have any problems with it, but I want to make sure before I start on the suit.

Finding beige fur
Hi all, I need to find some beige/tan/light brown fur. Looking for a cooler shade of beige, more brown than gold, preferably a solid colour but I'm open to some variation if necessary. It would be super ideal if it came in both a short and long version, but I know I may be wishing too hard there, haha!
Here's an approximation of what I need:
I emailed I'm Stuffed asking what they have in stock, and I came up empty on fabric.com and Fabric Empire already.
Does anyone have pictures of this fur in action?
