Due to a mix of idiocy and hesitance on my part, I've never learned how to machine-sew. I've also never learned how to properly utilize seam allowances. Basically, I've always sewn things seam-edge-to-seam-edge.

Because most of my projects (e.g., plushies) have long fur, my ugly barbarian seams don't usually show. However, I am tired of my own ignorance and want to start utilizing seam allowances. I've poked around and asked around on a LOT of sewing communities/forums, but most of them are for things like clothing and house decorations, so they're not really that clear/helpful when it comes to seam allowances and faux fur.

So, a few quick questions for those out there who handsew part/all of their suits:

-Are seam allowances possible/feasible with faux fur? Do they function normally as they would with regular cloth? (Except for the whole "making sure to brush the fur outwards so it doesn't get caught in the seam" thing, which I understand)

-What kind of stitch should I use when sewing faux fur along a seam allowance?
I currently use a blanket stitch for everything ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blanket_stitch ), because I love it and it's strong as heck. However, I don't think I can use it for sewing along seam allowances, because it's an edge stitch kind of thing.

Thank you for any help and insight on this baffling subject XD
