Getting cigarette smells out of a suit?

so a friend of mine whom I made a suit for lives with a smoker... and unfortunately his suit reeks!
His character is just not at all huggable when it smells of cigarettes, and my sister and I also personally find the smell offensive.

I can machine wash the hands, tail and body, and thus I was wondering if there is anything I should put in with/besides detergent to help get the smell out.

As for the head and feet, what do I do? I plan to bin the head up with something to get rid of the smell, research on how to get the smell out of a car brought up a lot of options, I was thinking the baking soda may be a good route.
