Changing the shape of a resin base over an open fire?

Hello all!

I've got a resin base that I'm either going to turn into a faux lion rug, or a headdress due to it being made WAY too small! :( I got it from a maker a few months back, and I realized it was much too small to be a fursuit head. So, if I were to make it a headdress I would need to "warp" (change the shape of) the headdress a bit. My mate said I could "warp" it over an open fire, but I'm a bit worried about fumes. :/ So I guess I'm just curious if it can even be done before I try! :)
