Hey guys, just a few quick questions regarding the patterns everyone uses to make tails for cats/wolves/foxes, etc.
Do you have a set pattern that you use every time you make a tail, or do you draw out the pattern on a whim? What style do you think looks best? What I see mostly are the symmetrical 'relaxed' tails and the 'S-shaped' tails. I'm looking to make something for a partial that's sort of in between. I don't like when the base of the tail isn't flush with the shape of your back/waist (it seems a little awkward with tails that stick out suddenly from your back). I do want the whole tail to have a slight curve through the whole tail and some stiffness at the base though, so that it's not just dangling straight downward like it's dead.
It seems easy enough, but my main question is: how do you end up with that awesome shape from a flat pattern? I'm never sure how wide to cut the fur so that it will look good when stuffed. I know the main solution to this is trial and error, but I thought I'd ask about everyone else's experience with this kind of thing to at least get an idea before I start making a bunch of test tails!
