Nftech hair as a "wig" (UPDATED)

I'm currently working on a partial suit for my snake fursona.  I've had hair on reptilian characters before, and while it looks neat in 2D, it doesn't really translate very well into a 3D costume.  Kanekalon hair works, but you need a LOT of it in order to cover the whole head.  And then it just looks floofy and mane-like, giving the whole head a bobble appearance.  So my other idea is to get a few square feet of super long fur from nftech.com and apply it in a way that it'll still behave like real hair, but without adding so much bulk.  As a back-up, I'll just use feathers if the hair doesn't work out.

If anyone can think of any other methods or materials that I could use to achieve this look, I'm all ears.  Nftech furs run about $45 / sq. foot.  It'll be a very expensive "mistake" if that idea fails and I have to resort to something else. =\

UPDATE: 1/8/12

So for a backup idea I may go with Kanekalon instead, but I'll fur the "scalp" short pile black fur first.  I'm hoping that this is enough to make the hair look fuller underneath without requiring bags upon bags of it.
