hello and happy new year, fursuit!
I'm currently in the process of brainstorming my first real attempt at a suit head. It's going to be a bird, a king vulture to be specific. For the sake of sight/ventilation and to stay more true to a vulture's head shape, I've opted to make the open beak the vision port. Because of this the mouth sits rather higher than it would on a normal head... and therein lies my dilemma.
(quick illustration over a silhouette of my actual head to give you an idea of what I'm going for.)
I've made a rough beak shape out of cardboard and wire and it works like a dream, but because of where it rests on my face I'm worried that if the beak gets bumped or pushed, it's going to smack me right in the front teeth. I'd like a solid base on the top of my head to prevent this. At first I thought of getting an old bike helmet to use, but I really want to avoid a giant bobblehead look. I'll go grab one soon just to check it out, but in case that's too bulky, does anyone have a suggestion for something sleeker?
