Best Sealant for Claws?

Hello! So my character is this skeleton creature and I made a pair of bone/claw gloves for him. I've worn the gloves for bit now to make sure they fit right and that all the pieces will stay on. I noticed that some of the paint was being worn away between some of the knuckle bones. I expected this much, this being my first time making any thing like that and knew those bone pieces needed to be "broken in" a little. My thought process was if I wore the glove enough, the bones would naturally wear each other down to the point where they no longer really affected each other, then just simply repaint and reseal those spots. However, some of the paint has begun to chip off of the finger tip bones as well. I forgot to count in the wear the finger tips would go through when I made them. :(
So does anyone have any ideas for some kind of clear sealant that withstands wear well? Or any other ideas to make the bone last longer?
If it helps they are made mainly of paper pulp, and colored with thick layers of white acrylic and brown oxide for the aged look. I then sprayed a Minwax Ploycrylic protective finish on it to make the bones hard and water proof (it rains a lot where I am, so was a bit worried of getting caught in the rain in suit).
