Just thought I'd show off my most recent fullsuit project, my fursona!
Ahh, my fursona. What a wild ride it's been. If you're a Fursuit LJ veteran, you may remember the early version of my suit pictured here:
There was a big gap between the 2004 and 2012 versions as you can tell. I used an alt fursona for a few years in there, and went back to being a wolf in 2008 or 2009.
So then I started this foam head in 2009 or 2010:
It was okay for the time period in which I made it, but I had cut corners with the construction because it was "just" for me, not for a customer, so it didn't have to be as good. But then I didn't even finish and and by the time I was ready to make my suit become reality, I didn't like the foamwork anymore. :P So I ditched it and started over.
I can't find the foaming photos for the new one I started over the summer, but maybe I didn't take any.
But here is a bunch of photos of her after taping her up and drawing on the markings. Then it sat in this state for months on end, I never let myself have anything nice, lol. The weeks before MFF, I went into overdrive and finally got going on everything, determined to not only have it finished, but to have it as quality as anything else I would make for a customer.
Some unflattering WIP pics I took as I went on to test the look of the bodysuit. This was also my first padded bodysuit in a few years. I've actually been working on this method of digitigrade padding for a couple years now, in my spare time plotting and trying new things. In the end, simpler worked better, who knew? ;P
I love to tinker around and come up with the methods that best suit the way I work and think, so I didn't use any sort of tutorials or ask for help when making the padding. Forgive me if I'm not too keen to give out the pattern because of this. ;)
In the end, there are still a few areas I "cheated" on (internal finishing stuff, that's all) but I finally have my fursona suit. I hadn't even worn the whole thing together in finished form until the convention. Luckily, it all worked out pretty well!
Looking at the photos taken by Dexcat, I see a couple nagging things I'll tweak before FWA. The neck ruff on the head should be made from shag, the backs of the feet need to be taken in a little bit (shoes kept sliding around inside, and you can see a gap at the ankle in the photos), and I'd like to add a little shading on or around her eyelids, in certain lighting conditions, the eyelids are completely washed out, since they're white on white.
I also plan to make "partial suit feet" for her that are smaller and easier to walk in, so when I wear her as a partial suit it'll be more proportional.
I am really thankful I have "use your own shoe" feet, we were staying in an overflow hotel some ways away from the convention during MFF, the one time I tried to walk it in my fursuit feet, my legs and feet were really sore and I needed a rest immediately upon entering the convention hotel. So after that, I just slipped the feet off and walked in my plain tennis shoes. Worked perfectly! We wolves are adaptive like that. ^^
PS: If you happened to capture this lobita in photos at MFF, I'd love to see!
