Hi all, not a full furry here (I don't think I could stand wearing the full costume, way to hot, but they look so gorgeous!) So I tend to stick to pieces only. Not so good at this stuff yet, and my halloween costume this year needs a bit of expert advice. :)
The part I need to make is my bat ears. I have a longer faux fur for the exterior, a much shorter fur for the interior, and (I can't remember what the helper at fabricland called it) but it's thinner and more flexible but similar to what they use to make hat brims to make my ears have shape.
My questions I didn't see answers too, but I could've missed them, if so, sorry!
1) What would be the best way to put it together? Make the 'bones' with the interior stuff then slide the fur over? Or another way?
2) Is there a way to make the distinctive ribbing look with my chosen materials at all? Should I try for a black cotton interior or something?
3) Would they be better on hair clips or the planned headband base? It's going to be worn with a wig, so I assumed the headband would stay in place better.
4) Last but not least, what should I do to the base of the ears so I can attach them to the headband or clips? How should this part look?
I've made simple cat ears and tails before, but that's about it. I don't own a sewing machine, so doing it all by hand.
Also, I'll be wearing this for 8+ hours, as it'll be worn to work all day, and then possibly some hours after.
Bonus question if anyone can help - bought the wings I now have to use, but they're a little short for my arm length - can't reach full range of movement with them. Any tips for lengthening them a bit?
Can post ref drawings for ears, or photo of wings if needed.
Thanks for all your help!! Will post pics of finished product and/or costume if requested. :) Going for a spookier bat this year, since last year, I dunno how, everyone assumed I was a black cat. I have no clue how they came to that conclusion with the wings.
