Alternate liner material for balaclava?

I'm going to be using the buckethead method for my next fursuit head, and I like the idea of using quilted broadcloth for a liner. Would it work to sew a dome out of quilted broadcloth and glue the foam "bucket" to it before I start carving? I'm just concerned that I won't be able to get a round enough top for the broadcloth dome, thus affecting the top of the foam bucket.
