I'm taking a sewing class at school and we've been doing a lot of work on sergers. Needless to say, I love them and plan to buy one at some point. I'm wondering if it's possible to use them on faux fur and how well it works (some info in the memories, but not much). Today I tried running a few scraps through the school's Brother 1034D which is one of the cheapest models on the market. In spite of the price, it's well known for being a great bang for your buck if you only need occasional serging. Amazingly, it could actually handle the fur! I tried both with and without the knife, and things definately went smoother without the blade. It was a little tricky to get all the fur fibers out of the way and I would probably want a wider stich, but I was impressed with how smoothly it went. In light of this, I have a couple questions about serging fur:
1. What serger do you own and how do you like it?
2. What parts of the project do you serge? (I'm thinking mostly body suits)
3. Do you serge to seam or just finish edges?
And finally, for those who don't serge, how do you treat seam allowance? Zigzag, trimming, nothing, etc?
Thanks guys! :D
