Project Usagi - Fur and head base question

I am going to start on a little kemono project after Easter of my main fursona Sivi;

but my problem will be finding that orange/mustard color. There is a store in Oslo whom seem to sell the same type of fur I have on a partial that I commissioned from a fursuitmaker in America. Here is some pictures of that fur: http://ic.pics.livejournal.com/norsepaw/44954883/112388/112388_800.jpg

this is the orange one they have picture of on their website, butI have to send a letter to get samples so I hope maybe someone out there knows of the color and how it looks like:

Its just called Longhaired orange and the fur is 5-7 cm long.

Now onto the headbase. I want to know if this is just waste of time or possible. My plan is to build a base of paperclay and then ducktape it to make a pattern and then use the pattern on some foam and build the base from there.
Good idea or bad?
