Ears

RAAA. Ears on fursuits still vex me to no end!

I'm trying to make ears to look like these here http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17989217/

and I've tried making a few patterns before but for some reason the sizing always ends up wrong. I know some extra has to be added (somewhere along the sides I think) to make sure they sit on the head right, so they're not just placed flat. If that makes sense? Like, I really want them to have that nice realistic curve and I have no idea how to achieve that. I've watched a few videos, and read several tutorials, but I never seem to get ears looking the way I want. If anyone could possibly red line those ears maybe so I have an idea about the shape of what my pattern would look like that would be awesome. Otherwise any others tips/advice would be great!

Also, what materials/methods achieve a nice looking ear? I've tried several, I usually take a one inch sheet of foam, cut my ear out, then dig out the "inner" ear. I feel like that looks alright, but still kind of flat -- wondering if they curve on the head like they're supposed to if that would help at all.


Any help would be hugely hugely appreciated!!!
