Help! Need advice on eye mold release issue

Greetings All !

So, I'm making eyes for my velociraptor costume (Halloween). And I'll admit, I've got a ton of other things to do. Super-busy here lately, real-life included.

I was cruising for info on how to make the eyes. I found several threads that talked about using Easycast resin. Expensive stuff, but I had a 40% off coupon.

So I was looking for some sort of dome-shaped mold that I could find here locally. I didn't want to order online only to find the mold was the wrong size.

I found a thread... SOMEWHERE... I wish I'd have bookmarked it... where the poster used these Hobby Lobby plastic ornaments (they come in two halves) as his mold:

Well, those certainly are cheap and readily available.

The poster had said he used Easycast with these molds. And, I'm not 100% sure he said to use Castin' Craft mold release with them, but that's what I saw at Hobby Lobby so that's what I bought.

For my first set, I think I didn't give the mold release enough time to dry, so scratch those.

I took my time making three more sets. I used two coats of mold release spray, giving them plenty of time to dry before I started mixing and pouring the resin.

But now the resin sure is NOT popping out of these plastic ornament "molds" easily. And I'm too afraid of damaging what's inside them to try to.... I dunno.... tap them with a hammer? Any suggestions on what I might try to do to get these resin eyes out of the molds cleanly?

Or, if I have to start all over, should I be using something else for a mold? Or do I need a better mold release spray? Those 2 1/2 " plastic ball ornaments are about the perfect size for what I need.

Thanks!
