Hi! New here. The costumes/suits I make are a little different than what you all are so good at, but along the same lines. We compete in costume classes at horse shows. There are 3 parts to the costumes; pony/horse, rider (children 8 and under), and the leader. Most of us that go to the state level are serious about our costumes and we try to one-up each other each year.
For the last 2 years, I have gotten 2nd place. I want to win it this year! 2011 I made our pony into the Cheshire Cat, with my daughter being Alice and me being the Queen of Hearts. Last year, we did Sesame Street. I made an 8' tall Big Bird for myself, the pony was Snuffleupagus, and my daughter was Oscar (complete with trashcan, riding the pony)
Those were fairly large and elaborate pieces. This year, Im wanting to "tone it down" a hair, but still keep it true to character/form. We are going with a Dr Seuss theme. The pony will be Horton, my daughter will be Thing 1 with a dummy Thing 2 riding behind her, and I will be the Cat in the Hat. This is where I need help...
All of my construction is freehand. I SUCK at making anything resembling clothing. (I purchased mine and my daughters Alice costumes) While I can purchase a Cat costume WAY cheaper than make one, I feel like it wouldnt be true to form if I did that.
All of my research in costuming over the years has led me towards the Furry Community. Im wanting to make an as realistic as possible Cat fursuit, but dont know where to start! I dont know if there are body patterns that are "poofier" that you may be able to direct me towards? I do know that we will be using facial prosthetics to achieve the nose, but beyond that, Im open to any and all ideas!
Hope to be able to learn some stuff from you all and maybe be able to help others with my "out of the box" way of thinking...
