While I was in Walmart, I picked up a little product that I thought could be used for the pupils in the head I'm working on, and I'm glad I did. It has its drawbacks and such but I thought I would post about it here anyway in case anyone wanted to check it out.

They're shades meant for covering car windows to protect kids from sun and glare. I've tried a small clip of it in my dummy eyes and they work very well.
In just the eyes, they're pretty noticeable and you can see things on the other side of them. They're also fairly shiny but since I'll be putting a shiny lens over the whole eye it shouldn't matter much so long as I make sure to glue them down to be very flat.
Once inside the head and with the head worn, it's dark enough that others can't see through it and see your eyes. I asked a couple of people to check for me while I wore it. It doesn't obstruct your view very much at all since it is meant to be seen through and doesn't make things dark looking, maybe as much as a pair of very light colored sunglasses. They also don't change vision when you go out in the sun, which was a problem with my old material that basically blinded me by filtering the light throughout the whole pupil. The texture is a little odd but only noticeable close up and might even work well for bug eyes if put over a large area. I also painted a small swatch on them and, though it takes two coats to cover up the black entirely, paint seems to stick pretty well to it. Anyway, I just thought I'd share since it's a decent amount of material in one $5 package and it's very easy to see through.
