High visibility eye material

While I was in Walmart, I picked up a little product that I thought could be used for the pupils in the head I'm working on, and I'm glad I did. It has its drawbacks and such but I thought I would post about it here anyway in case anyone wanted to check it out.

They're shades meant for covering car windows to protect kids from sun and glare. I've tried a small clip of it in  my dummy eyes and they work very well.
TPhoto_00012In just the eyes, they're pretty noticeable and you can see things on the other side of them. They're also fairly shiny but since I'll be putting a shiny lens over the whole eye it shouldn't matter much so long as I make sure to glue them down to be very flat.
TPhoto_00013Once inside the head and with the head worn, it's dark enough that others can't see through it and see your eyes. I asked a couple of people to check for me while I wore it. It doesn't obstruct your view very much at all since it is meant to be seen through and doesn't make things dark looking, maybe as much as a pair of very light colored sunglasses. They also don't change vision when you go out in the sun, which was a problem with my old material that basically blinded me by filtering the light throughout the whole pupil. The texture is a little odd but only noticeable close up and might even work well for bug eyes if put over a large area. I also painted a small swatch on them and, though it takes two coats to cover up the black entirely, paint seems to stick pretty well to it. Anyway, I just thought I'd share since it's a decent amount of material in one $5 package and it's very easy to see through.
