Beginer tips? Pawboots or sock paws?

So I am a beginner suiter but not a beginner crafter. I have experience with making props and all kinds of stuff and I am a decent machine sewer. I have never made something of this category so I just wanted to ask for some advice before jumped into a big project. I am starting small by localizing to feet only before I try anything else.
As a newbie I wanted ask what is better to start out with: Pawboots or Sock paws
I have a pair of 2.5" gaudy yellow heel boots that I got at Goodwill that I was planning to destroy and a couple more materials to start out with (pictured under the cut). I could just as easily turn this into sock paws if that would be easier or work better for the materials I have.
I am open to all kinds of advice and criticism. C:

Boots, Fimo(black), random cheap leather swatches (for paw pads maybe?), and E6000 glue.The fur I bought (20"x60", I got is for cheap but I won't know what it is like until I get it from ebay)


I have a bunch of standard craft stuff as well like felt and sewing supplies as well as craft only brushes.I have yet to get foam. (And I have no shortage of socks)


[EDIT] A link to a good sock paw tutorial would be awesome too. Expecially if the result was something like OneEyedDoe's awesome sock paws!
