Leg padding attachment

First, thank you for comments about changing into fursuit and yes, I will go to fursuitlounge community for that next time. What I am trying to figure out is how to go about adding padding to my full suit legs. I have made foam pads that go over the fronts of my thighs to simulate a higher-up-the-leg knee and ones that go behind my calves to simulate hocks to give a bit of a jackleg look. Not too exaggerated. I figure on making the legs in two halves with the seams in front and back, rather than normal pants made with the seams to the sides. That way I can cut the fabric so the shape fits the forms better and am pretty good at hiding seams (I hand sew everything).

The main question is how to attach the foam pieces to the suit fabric. This will be like a set of coveralls or a jumpsuit with a zipper down the front. I have seen it done where another, softer and more comfortable fabric is sewn over the foam on the inside to hold it in place but how the heck to I keep the foam in place while I fit and shape the inner fabric so that it doesn't bunch and fits nice when I put it on? Only way I can figure out is to fit the inner fabric under the foam placed on my legs and cut it to shape and, somehow, pin it together without stabbing myself, taking it off and then sewing.

Partial wing attachment

I'm going to be making a few unique premades to hone my technique and bring in some extra cash for conventions and the like.

One I would really like to do is a ragdoll cat/cockatiel gryphon. It would have a head, tail and little back wings

Now, my question is in regards to the wings. They wouldn't move or anything and they'd be rather small, so how would I go about adding a way to comfortably wear them with a partial?

The tried and true, if not uncomfortable, two elastic straps around the armpits? Magnets? Something magical?

I'd love to hear your input.

I can literally find no alpaca fursuits. There is that one drama llama but is that really it? are there really no alpacas out there?

In any event I'm on a fur search. I've had bad luck with mongolian/stringy furs being poor quality and I need to really go out of my way to make her not look like a sheep (I'm not making a long neck) but I did order some swatches of that DF poodle fur stuff. Does anyone have any reccomendations on a good camel/beige alpaca worthy fur? If not I'll probably settle for basic luxury shag :(

Changing Body Shape / Adding Hair

I'm about to start on a new fursuit, which is a stoat. However, it's a female character, and I'm wondering what kind of padding I would need in order to pull off that look. I'm a little nervous about making this since I'm male, but I'm not interested in giving the character huge boobs or anything like that. Just enough to get the look right.

This is the character in question: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9272528/

I'm also planning on giving wig hair to it, how should I go about this? Would I have to cut up a wig or use that Kanekolen stuff?

removing paint and fixing a crooked jaw

Hello everyone I had a couple "how do I do this" questions for you guys that I hope you can answer!
1. Is it possible to remove paint from a resin jawset? I bought it used and want to strip the paint from it but didn't want to mess up the resin. Can a use a paint thinner or some other chemical or am I forced to just either repaint it or pick it off by hand?
Here's a picture of said jawset:

2. I got a headbase as part of the trade and noticed that the bottom jaw was crooked and I want to know how to correct this. Here's some pictures:

3. Are there any tutorials out there of actually finishing a resin base (installing elastic straps, jawsets, eyes, etc.)? I've found a bunch on doing the sculpting and casting part but none on the actual finishing touches part. I apologize if this has already been answered on here but I couldn't find it.

Thanks! :D

Baby Blue Fur?

Hello! I need some help finding some fur to match a suit I am working on. I'm looking for a short, almost seal baby blue fur. I originally bought it from fabric.com earlier this year but it seems they don't have it anymore. Here are some shots of it in use, it's really soft and smooth and has about a half in pile. Pics of it under the cut:

Face lift!

After MFF, I took the opportunity to update a head I made in January 2011 with a lining as well as a face lift!

Few new things:  A lighter, more custom eye structure, eyes that are slightly farther apart for aesthetic purpose, as well as keeping the pupils relatively in the same place ot avoid a huge blind spot.  (Beforehand the holes for the pupil were in the MIDDLE of the eye structures, so I had to keep the eyes very close together to avoid a  blindespot. Now, with the pupils adjusted to the inner corners of each eye, I dont have to worry about that!)

Among other little new details done.

Design issues

So I bought some discount fur for about $10 a yard from Fabric Empire. One yard of Silvery Polar Bear Long Pile, to be specific. I was expecting it to be a slightly shiny white like the picture and like the other short pile fur I bought on Ebay but longer but what I got was slightly different...
I got some very low density light grey fur just over inch long. Now I definatly got what I paid for so I am not complaining.
I was planning to make a pair of sock paws and my worry is that this fur will matt like crazy on the bottom. I don't think the white will have the same problem.

Now I was going for something like A or B but I might have to move up to C or D (on the leg would be a sepreate peice that would button on to the foot.)
So I am asking which design do you like more while taking into consideration the matting problem?

I'm clueless...

Heat forming plastic?

Well first off im in need of colord plastic sheets, im planning on using them for eyes, anyone know where i can get those colored sheets from? If anyone knows where to get them what is a good thickness to go with? I usually get colored bowls and the like, but i really would like something that i can better control while cutting, as well as get more eyes out of it.

Now for the important part, i wanna heat form the plastic, but i have a bit of a catch, i need to make a circle out of it. How do i go about heating it up and get it in the shape i need? >.<

The Start of a Project! Questions Ahoy!

Hiya! My name is Sal, or Salem. I've dabbled in sewing and even a few fursuit heads in the past, but I really want to make a project to work on during break. I figured with FWA in March I might as well try my hand at making a fullsuit of my sona! I have a lot of questions but I think I'm on the right track so far from my research. Any help will be greatly appreciated. c:

So, for starters I want to show which character I'm hoping to emulate.
SFW sal reference

My first problem is going to be finding a fur remotely near that color. Grey is hard to come by, but purplish grey? Oh jeez. If there's a fur out there that is remotely this color, please let me know. I'm thinking seal would be the best length, at least for the body.

I want to make this suit as form-fitting as possible, which will mean a lot of darts and tweaking and possibly sewing elastic thread into the backing (as shown here: http://fursuit.livejournal.com/4065775.html). I'm willing to take the time to do that but it does mean I need to find a fur that's thick enough and good enough quality that the darts and work with shaping don't show through... I'm debating buying white fur and dying it using beetlecat's acrylic method. (http://beetlecat.livejournal.com/188117.html) but that is going to be tricky to get even for all that fur. If anyone could help locate a fur in this color or offer some advice, that would be a great start. c:

From there, I'm simply planning on the head... But I'll add more when I get there!

Extra long blonde

I'm looking for an extra long blonde faux fur that isn't DF.
The fur I have for the rest of the body is 3" I need something that length.

Also does anyone have any photos of MM Plamino Fox in use?

Busy, busy, busy!!

Hey all,

I haven't posted here in awhile but I finally got ALL fur colors for
my fursona and am going to start working over christmas break!

Fursona for markings and such http://sta.sh/0c6cu5l3633

QUESTION TIME! (plus two smaller ones)

I can't seem to decide on how I should make my suit,
I can't decide between partial, 3/4 suit, or a fullsuit
It would be LOADS easier if my fursona's main fur color wasn't discontinued,
but I was able to get a few yards from a community member
I have plenty of the other colors, but only about 2 yards of gold, give or take.

Can I even possibly make a fullsuit?
Can you make parts for a partial and then change it into a 3/4 suit,
a full suit, depending on the occasion? I would like it to be interchangeable
between the three, if that's even possible XP

And can you make removable digitigrade padding if I was to
make an interchangeable suit, granted that  it's possible?
if I didn't alter the legs and just stuck foam into the suit would it fall down, not work?

Last question: What is the average size for a fursuit head before fur? I think that I have
made my heads too small, and would like to make this one bigger,
considering it's a fennec, but not out of porportion to one's body ^^'

Opinions please, suggestion welcome!!

Thank you guys so much, i'll have WIP pics over break for critique help XD

(P.S. if this needs to be spread out I can do that XP)

Hi there!

I have not really delved too much into this community, so I decided I would not that I have a project in my hands!
I am entirely new at this, and I am going to be building a fursuit of my beloved Panda Shepherd dog character, Pepper.

peppershep

She will be a personal suit, obviously. Once I get a good grasp on how to make one of these bad boys well, I'm going to move on to some cow projects.
But anyhow, I'm fairly/somewhat confident in a lot of what I'll be doing here now. I have some good friends helping me a long the way.
However, something I am petrified of confronting is sewing!

I have not laid my hands on a sewing machine nor do I have some very good experience on hand sewing.
I am mostly focused on handsewing, because if I can't work well with a sewing machine, I can decide to just... hand sew everything.
I literally plan to practice sewing in the time that I'll have before I construct my suit, but the problem I have is that I don't know ANY really good hand sewing techniques.
What is the usual, best hand sewing technique for Fursuits? Does anyone have some tips on this technique? Is there a website that teaches it? Or can someone simply explain it to me in a simpleton fashion so that I can grasp and try it? I'm almost certain I'm overcomplicating things, but I love to have something to work off of so I don't feel like I'm doing it wrong! That, and I want to be timely with this suit and take the time to do it correct!

ANY help with that would be amazingly appreciated... I will be posting updates on this thread of the progress of my suit as well. <3 Thanks so much in advance!
