Fursuit "mask"?

Hi, community! Here's what I'm pondering.

I have very long hair. My fursona - surprise, surprise - does as well. If I were to wear a fursuit head, I'd have to bunch up my hair under a wig cap on top of my head and then put the fursuit head over it. I've worn wigs for cosplaying before, and it gets pretty gross and sweaty under those, so it'd probably be worse under an enclosed fur head with little ventilation. Plus, if I wanted to accurately portray my character, I'd have to buy a wig and attach that to the fursuit head as well.

It would be a lot easier if I had what amounted to a fursuit mask - just the face, with the entire back and some of the top of the head open, and probably using a strap or something to hold it on. Do you think that would work, structurally? Would the weight of the foam, fur, etc. be supported without slipping down? My character's a cheetah, so there isn't a very large muzzle to be held up. And would it look okay, or would the sudden thickness of the face be too weird?

If this has been done before, I'd love to see pictures. I did a quick search with no results.
