Suiting Prep: Your fursuit and you!

Was talking with another maker and we started chatting about suiting
experiences and some of the not so nice things that follow. When you hit
a con you usually see all the fluff first before some of the stink hits
you. We discussed seeing suits that looked real mangy, smelled horrid,
or just needed a good burning due to miscare. While you take care of
yourself, your suit needs care too!!

Here's how to keep you smelling really awesome at a con out of suit:

1. SHOWER. No one wants to smell your funk, no matter how 'natural' you're going for. Soap, water, scrub, repeat if need be.

2. Deodorant. Kill the BO where it really starts. It's a serious put
off when you can smell the suiter before seeing them but its even worse
if the person is out of suit.

3. Toothbrush/toothpaste: Fresh breath is also important. Keep them pearly whites white :D

4. Pack several sets of CLEAN clothes in a SEPARATE container than your
fursuit stuff!! Don't wear the same stuff over and over again, that's
just... nasty... Keeping your clean clothes away from your suiting gear
will help in keeping those clean clothes clean.

Here's how to keep your suit huggable and clean!

1. Wear a balaclava under your head as well as a dive skin/full body
lycra/etc. to help soak up that sweat! Did you know body oils and fluids
can actually not only damage a suit but make it fall apart faster?
Bodily fluids will wear on the fur fibers, matting them and loosening
the threads in the backing, having it wear more.

2. When you're done wearing your suit, flip it inside out to help dry!
hang it up and spray it down with a 50/50 mix of rubbing alcohol and
water to kill bacteria( if you're at a con especially!). Also, if you've
been suiting a lot, give it a bath. Bathes not only fluff up that nasty
matting fur, but brighten dingy colors and bring life back to the suit.

Don't know how to wash your suit? try this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/9197930/

At the con? How about this! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9197823/

Brush and hang your suit. Don't leave it in a pile on the floor. It will only get more dirty and smelly down there.

3. Sweating a lot? Get outta suit and dry off! Hugging something soft,
fluffy, and warm is wicked awesome, hugging something just sticky or wet
is NOT. Flip it inside out and let it dry. Take a shower, take that
moment to hydrate and eat even.

4. Keep your suits put up when not in use, especially away from pets or
other allergens/strong smells. While you might not be able to smell it,
some pet odors can be a real bother to some that you might encounter.
Avoid smoking or drinking as well while in suit as those smells heavily
linger and can be am issue later, especially if you go to sell it later.
Other allergens/irritants could be hooka/pot, perfume, or even adult...
things...

5. Touching on the adult subject. If you have one, make sure its
exceptionally clean or just don't wear it in public. It's extremely
disgusting to the general public and just down right inappropriate to
give a hug and come across something clinging to the suits fur or. I'm
not saying you're not allowed to have one but please, keep the bedroom
stuff IN THE BEDROOM. I've encountered a few suits of this nature that,
while covered up, just smelled rank due to previous activities.

But in general, most of this should be common sense but we all know a
lot of this is skipped. While suiters and furs alike are there to have
fun, lets try o have an atmosphere that's fun for everyone, not just
those that have no sense of smell :P

Once you're home, give you, your clothes, your suit totes, and your suit
a good cleaning so everything can be fresh and ready to go for the next
outing :D
