Attaching tail to bodysuit help?

I haven't posted here in a while, but I'm pretty close to finishing my bodysuit and I need to figure out how to attach the tail.
It's a rather large tail, so I can't sew it on, and the way the base is, I can't just cut slits for the belt loops.
I know I could just cut a hole and to put the whole base of the tail through, but my fear is that the hole will be to big and there will be a gap between the tail and bodysuit.

I'm honestly at a loss here, if anybody has any advise at all that would be greatly appreciated!
