What material for a dragon?

I apologize of this question has already been asked.
I am thinking of starting a quadsuit and have done a sketch. It will be of an ice dragon (or some sort), because of my username everywhere, as above, Northern Pyro.
Since it is a dragon, it would naturally have scales, but I am not sure how I would go about doing this.
What material should I use to do the skin of a dragon?
Should it be very short pile fur?
if it is that: Where should I get it from?

P.S. as soon as I find out how, I will scan the sketch into the computer and post it into my deviant art page.
