Making a Mane - Help!

Hi guys,

I might be attending AX 2013 with a friend of mine. Since I'm not personally big on dressing up as human characters, I'm going to go as Haku from Spirited Away (dragon form, naturally!)

I'm not making a full fursuit - more like a partial.

However, I'm completely stumped on how to make the mane.

I have some 1"-pile fur in a close-enough color (finding a close color was a nightmare in and of itself) but I'm just not sure how to fashion it into an acceptable-looking mane.

I know I could "fold over" a long strip of the fabric, but I'm worried that that will look like some kind of lumpy fur pouch instead of a mane :/

Does anyone have any advice? Should I just abandon the fur and go with yarn (e.g. Bernat) or Kanekalon/something similar? ...wahahaha, not that I have ANY idea how to work with yarn... >_>;
