Hello everyone! After lots of curiosity and sidestepping, I'm currently in the process of building my first fursuit! I've done hours of reading & learning & scouring the interweb for tutorials (this community in particular has been an amazing resource-thank you guys!) but eventually comes a time when I won't learn any more by reading and I have to just BEGIN. so i did!
The suit is going to be a sheep partial & I'm going for a toony style (I originally wanted tear duct vision so that I could give her eyes higher-up and farther apart but now I'm not sure). I have a few questions about my construction though- I'm trying to be intuitive but hoping for some input from more experienced folks before I start smoothing things out :)
Creepy unfinished foam-head photos under the cut!
I didn't want to do the helmet-style of foam construction because I wear glasses & wanted to accomodate them comfortably! instead, I have a ring of foam that sits on my head sort of like a crown. The sides of the face attach to the ring & extend out into the nose. There's also a strap over the top of the 'crown' for stability (since it's not visible in the photos, i drew those in blue.)
Would it be possible to attach some sort of fabric base over the gaps between foam at the back of the head, and then fur over that? Like a sort of hybrid foam-front balaclava-back head? I dotted in the red line because if this is possible, i think that (once it's sculpted out) cutting that would help to shorten the jawline & may give the illusion of a slightly broader & more arched neck.
I also had some good luck in finding fur with a curly texture! However, the fur itself isn't very long so i don't think there's much potential in shaving it to give it shape. Instead, I'm trying to shape the wooly 'poofs' out of foam straight onto the head.
I'm having a bit of trouble since I have no sense of how much bigger furring is going to make them. I doodled on the second picture to illustrate where the wooly parts are!
The rest of the face is black and-just for fun- I drew on the ideal shape of the head & ears, which I have yet to make.
Anyway, my question is: do you think the 'poofs' are too big?
Thank you so much for taking a peek, and sorry for such a long post! Hopefully I haven't been rambling impossible nonsense.. I'm really quite new to this!
I would also really appreciate any and all other suggestions you might have for me. :3
(wow, seeing it in photos really makes me see how big & asymmetrical she is! i need to carve some stuff down i think. lucky for me i'm working with 3-inch foam!)
