So, I'm working with several people right now. One with a print/sign shop, and a friend of mine on designing some eyes to possibly print. After looking into some materials, one that seemed the most suitable to me was perforated vinyl. Specifically at a perforation of 60/40. I'm getting a sample mailed to me so I can see just how big the mesh actually is (I work with craft mesh for eyes usually instead of buckram so I'll be comparing the eye holes to that size).
I've seen perforation percents go up to as high as 50/50 and this makes the holes larger. Another site offered 70/30 and 65/35. So, the 60/40 sounded like a perfect "middle" ground.
I also spoke with the a lady and was afraid the print shop would require a very large minimum order, but it looks like I can do something affordable like $35.00. So that'll be a good test run.
To my knowledge these will print waterproof, and the eyes will be designed so I can switch out whatever colors I want so long as they're in the CMYK spectrum. So, far so good! My biggest concern right now is this is vinyl, with a back that has adhesive. These are intended for window panels, so are made to be applied sticky side to the glass. Problem is 1. I want to adhere them to plastic eye blanks. And 2. The sticky side is on the back/black side and I usually install my irises to the back of the eye whites, not on top.
My main question is -- what glue/adhesive would you guys recommend for trying to make vinyl adhere to plastic? Im getting a sample soon so I can experiment, but I'm hoping something like E-6000 or some other plastic super glue like Gorilla Glue might work. I'm then hoping to just peel off the liner on the backside, and just let its natural adhesive dry out.
Thoughts?
