No Electronics Moving Eye Inspiration?

I recently moved into an old house after the previous tenant passed away. It came with all of her belongings, and pretty much everything is from the 70s and 80s. I found this little locomotive toy (no idea what it is) but I found its moving eye mechanism fascinating and thought I'd post about it just in case someone wanted to attempt it on a head or quadsuit.

Basically the lower jaw is connected to a peg that connects to the irises; therefore when the jaw moves, the irises move forward as well, making it go from side glancing to looking forward. Unless the whole eye were mesh it may not be the best for a typical head, but for a quad with neck vision it could be pretty cool.

(I really hope gifs work on lj)

I imagine you could make the iris and it's connecting peg out of a pretty thin material, and not have to have the bottom of the eye very open for it to function. Add a white back to the eye and you'd have a pretty interesting feature.

I don't think I'll ever have the precision to pull it off, but I know fursuit making is born from invention, so I thought I'd pass this on just in case someone else can benefit from it!
