Bony scales and spikes!

Hi, everyone! It's been a while!

It looks like over the summer I'll be making a full fursuit of the Beowolf from RWBY. It's basically an anthropomorphic black wolf with a skeletal head and some bony spikes and spots and spines all over (which are my area of concern for this question!)

Looking at other livejournal entries, it looks like most makers would make the base shapes of the bones out of foam and cover them in a fabric such as vinyl, then sew them to the fursuit. This is a method I'm thinking of using (although if anyone knows a fabric that they think would work even better than vinyl, let me know, since this will be my first time working with this kind of texture/method/bony stuff).

However, my friend is suggesting for the flatter bony spots that I make them out of EVA foam, then seal and paint them (similar to how many cosplayers make props and armor), then sew them to the suit somehow. I'm a little hesitant about this method since it doesn't seem to match the method or materials of the rest of the suit very well, and to be honest I'm not sure you can even sew sealed EVA foam to fur. XD

So yeah, what do you all think? Is shaping with foam and covering with vinyl (or a different fabric?) a better idea, or might the EVA foam thing work too?
