This is really silly, but I've never actually soled(?) any of my outdoor fursuit feet. I've always made them so that the foam and fur had minimal contact with the ground. I did this by carving the foam so that it slopes upwards away from the ground and only the sole of the shoe actually comes in contact with the ground. So far this has actually worked out pretty well for me, but it's only been for personal suits. However, I've been working on a costume for a local kid and because it's a commission (and for a kid), I've been doing my best to make all the pieces as durable and professional as I can.
My question is: How do you sole your fursuit feet? I'm using standard EVA foam fatigue mats, and the feet are built over top of slip-on shoes as the base. I'm imagining that I would fur them so that the fabric overlaps the bottom of the shoe a bit, and then glue the EVA foam to the bottom using E6000 or ShoeGoo to hide the edges of the fabric, the fabric giving the glue something to adhere to better than just the shoe's rubber sole alone. Is there some way to finish it, like some sort of material to trim the outer edges of the foam with to make it look more polished? I'm just having a hard time imagining it not looking like I just slapped a slab of foam to the bottom of a furry boot, idk.
(Also, this kid is 10 and the child of a pretty big name fine artist. This whole project has been destroying my nerves, homg.)
Oh,
