I'm getting ready to ship a partial (head, hands and large tail) to Germany from the US. I have zero experience shipping internationally and after reading several other journals and websites regarding the issue I'm still uncertain of the best practice for shipping overseas. The partial was $450 which I know the value from what I've read determines the cost of duties and taxes in the arriving country? Any suggestions on the best practice to keep costs down for my customer? From what I've read Germany seems to be particularly awful with charging very high customs fees.
Also, recommendations on the best way to pack a partial for overseas shipping (Its all foam, fur, polifill, no easily breakable stuff unless it gets crushed)? I was planning on purchasing a heavy duty box from Home Depot, as I don't really have any other options where I live. But then when trying to use USPS calculator for shipping costs the dimensions for the large box was too big? I dunno, I know USPS website can be flakey with stuff like that seeing as reading the max dimensions for shipping it was okay from what I could see.
