when to shave

Hey, sorry for all the questions here lately. Been trying to do as much suit work as the schedule allows this summer, and going to be attempting quite a few new things, so it leaves me with a lot of questions. Anyway, my latest inquiry is this. I'll be making a bodysuit with semi-intricate markings (not crazy detailed but more so than what I'd consider to be "simple" markings. Basically involving larger star shapes and such) my question is this (and bear in mind all the fur I plan on working with at this point is has about a 1 inch pile length give or take) but where/when do you shave (if at all) to make sure the markings show and aren't covered up by the fur they're sewn to?

Does that make sense?

I just wonder if I should shave all the fur down? Or should I just shave like the star shapes? Or perhaps I only need trim the fur that overlaps the star?

My question also lends itself to ears. I believe as far as ears are concerned whether or not to shave or how much is partially style choice but I was just wondering. How many of you shave the ears on your heads, and if so how much and wear? I've seen some heads where it seems like the fur is shaved down quite short much like the front of the face, and other heads I've seen them left completely fluffy. I kind of want do a bit of blending for the ears -- like shaving the majority of the back of the ear relatively short, but leaving maybe the base, tips, and inner ear fluffier. Thoughts?

Any pics or deeper explanations about when/where to shave in regards to showing more intricate markings would be helpful and appreciate.

I'd also like to take the time to thank everyone who reads and comments on my questions. It's made a huge difference and I don't think I always take the time to show my appreciation to the generosity of people on this group. :)
