So I feel like I'm becoming more ambitious in my fursuit endeavors, and taking on bigger, more complicated projects (mostly for myself). In the past the tails that I've made have been fairly simple, and often times I avoid making large tails. I do this for several reasons, but mainly it's because it's hard enough to keep track of myself in fursuit, it's another thing entirely when you've got a tail dragging a foot behind you.
Anyway.
So, I'm going to be making this little guy here!

as a personal suit, and starting to try and plan out how I'm going to tackle different parts of him.
The tail I believe is going to be a biggie. In relationship to him, it seems like the tail is as long as his body(roughly) so in my case that would be five feet or so. Unless I'm seeing the ref incorrectly. My thing is I have a few things specifically to be incorporated into the tails design, that in a perfect world can be constructed. The first thing is I'd like to keep the size, but also keep it in a similar position as is in the ref. I'd prefer to avoid having a tail that drags on the ground. I think I'd actually shorten the tail if I have to in order to avoid that. If possible, Id like it to have "some" movement at least in the thinner/tip section anyway. Lastly, I'd like to construct this so it's not super heavy/doesn't need any kind of harness to hold it up. A friend of mine suggested a foam core?
I was thinking possibly (if I can find someone who is good with pepakura or perhaps a similar program) of seeing if a 3d pattern might be crafted in Pepakrua or something similar, and making a hollow core based from that? Then possibly adding a wire (or delrin rod but I don't know much about that) stuffing then making a fur pattern around the foam "skeleton?" In theory this sounds doable, but I'm not entirely sure. The idea certainly intrigues me. I think to test it out I'd need to find someone pretty familiar with making custom things through a 3-d model program though.
What do you guys think? Any tutorials available that might help me out? Anything that can help me start planning out how I'm going to tackle that tail would be super appreciated! :)
Also, anyone got tips on making little wings? I was thinking I like how the little chibi angel dragon wings look and I'd kind of like to make them look like that. Not sure if I'm going to use fleece or fur yet. I was thinking of just cutting the wing shapes out of like half inch foam and patterning them? Is it better to clip them/pin them to a suit, or maybe attach them to elastic straps? This suit has a lot of new things going for me that I've never tried, so hoping someone that perhaps has experienced making anything similar might have some insight.
Thanks!
Anyway.
