Tracing/Sewing Darts

I'm currently furring my feet paws. I have the dtd prepared, cut out, and darted. Do you trace and cut the triangle shape a dart makes directly into the fur, or is there a more specific way to do it? How do you sew a dart without leaving a bumpy seam?
