Hey guys! This doesn't relate specificially to fursuits, but I know you of all people could help, and in turn it might help someone with mangled fur fabric.
Very recently I was digging through the attic and I found an old, very important stuffy that I thought was lost. Looking at it, I realized the fur was matted and mangled. It was in a water-proof container and the matting seems to be from other objects sitting on it.
The fur still has strands, it just seems knotted, and a little and has lost it softness. As matter of fact, the fur used to have a texture very similar to DF. I don't think it has heat damage, but I guess it's always possible? Also I've gone over it with a slicker brush and it's helped, but not much.
Thanks!
Edit: for those wondering, here's a picture of the same kind of stuffy I snagged on Ebay:
