Hi guys!
I've been trying to make a pair of wings – not actually for a fursuit, but I've seen a lot of helpful tutorials come from here, so I figured I may as well see if anyone here could help me.
The part I'm stuck on is the mechanism to attach the wings to the harness. I want to be able to raise and lower the wings, not necessarily a realistic motion, but just a simple hinge that would allow me to rotate them down behind my back if I need to get through a door or anything. The tricky part is that I would like to be able to raise them myself while I'm wearing them and have them sort of lock into place once they're up.
Here's a video of the wings I'm modeling them after, which shows what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6DKkq9yTUc&t=5m15s
Unfortunately this was the best quality/angle I could find of them in action. As you can see, he seems to be able to raise them easily and they stay pretty solidly in place once they're up, even with him jumping around at the end of the video.
here are some other shots of the wings, but nothing particularly revealing: (hi res)(side view where you can sorta see the hinge)
I haven't been able to find any sort of self-locking hinge so far, but if anyone here is familiar with making (semi)articulated wings maybe you could point me in the right direction!
Also, if anyone has tips on lightweight materials I could use as well, I'd love to hear them. I was planning on using delrin rod but I am definitely open to suggestions. :)
Thank you!!
