polyfil footpaws?

I checked the memories section for help here, but the only leads I found ended up being broken images. or links. my apologies if I missed something!

anyway - I'm looking to make footpaws with large polyfil-stuffed toes. it seems like it would be an easier method than carving foam, and I love the cute poofy look. however, I can't even begin to imagine how to go about making a pattern for the toes!

in addition to help on making a pattern, I'd love any advice you have about stuffed footpaws, including what base you recommend using (a shoe, a custom-made foam base...?)
