Resin blank making

I've been looking through the memories, but I'm only starting out so it's a matter of basic questions at this stage...
I'm wanting to get into realistic style fursuit heads, and I've heard resin blanks are good for that. I am wanting to try something different from foam, so I'm hoping here might have some suggestions.
Is resin safe? Is there a better alternate for realistic head bases?
If resin is the way to go, does Australia have any good suppliers?
